Besides myself?

Outside of attempting to drink a Bud light during last football season, I haven't drank a domestic beer in over 3yrs. Not sure if I'll ever drink a domestic again. Will drink liquor before doing so. Domestic's have absolutely ZERO fvcking taste compared to Craft beers.

 to IPA styles. Especially double and imperials

The IPA trend a couple of years ago killed it for me. I'd rather have a nice saison over an IPA anyday. Saisons are more about the flavor over the hoppiness. More of a sipping beer. A true connoissuer beer for those who value flavor

My brewery taps a new cask weekly. We f@ck with so many flavors. Yesterday we did an oak aged Vanilla Amber ale. I've worked there now a couple of months and literally have have a new cask every week. I'm working with the brewmaster now in doing a tea series. We're coming up with a roibos ale. We'll see what we come up with

Yup. It became a contest of who can make the most hoppiest bitter beer. Then the hipsters started drinking it to show off their affinity for craft beer. Hipsters were weird that way. Went straight from Pabst Blue ribbon to IPA afficianados

You'll love saisons. Not too sour, but very bold in flavor. It can be sweet and sour at the same time. We put out a small batch Pina Colada Saison. Brewmaster nailed it.

What brewery? You guys ship to the States?

The best beer I've had in the past year:

I'm a miller lite snob.

I don't hate craft beers, they are just so f*cking heavy and filling. It's like drinking a liquified loaf of bread.

I really don't get the hate on domestic beer. I know it's the hipster thing to hate on domestic beer nowadays but on a hot day i'd rather drink something refreshing.

Not gonna share my brewery. Since I'm the ambassador my personal information will be 100% completely exposed. Not a good idea for all the physcos on ISH.

But no, we don't ship to the US. We're not scaled yet. Plus US has different brewing laws.

Interesting take on an IPA. Nut flavors usually get burried in the hops. It looks good!

Hipsters used to hate craft beer and protested it by drinking Pabst. Then went the completely opposite direction and went with the hoppiest beer.

God bless them because that's all they spend their low income on. Trying to look cool in our tasting rooms.

I most definitely like the flavor, but also like only having to drink 5-6 doubles or imperials to feel just as good as if I drank 8-10 domestics in one sitting

I'm not a sipping guy. Years go I had 2 jobs and by the time I got home, I'd eat and hurry up and drink about 8 beers over 2-3 hour span and go to bed. Get up and do it all over again, to where now, it's hard to just sip.

If it's a Stout like CBS (which I'm sure you're familiar with) then yeah, it's a sipper cause I really can't drink more than a few bombers of those types in a sitting.

IPAs can be good if the brewmaster doesn't overdo it with the hops. If done right it can be a thing of beauty. Unfortunately most brewers get it wrong.

I've always liked a good lager or pilsner from local breweries. It reminds me of when I lived in Germany. The beer was so good because it was fresh and hand crafted.

I've never been a fan of stouts but the Guiness, Murphys and Beamish I had in Ireland in March were outstanding.

Doubles and Imperials I do when I want to get drunk quicker or smoking a cigar. I'm surprised you can power through them. Definitely not the types I can down

Stouts are strictly a cold weather thing for me. I've had some serious CBS that were like pothole fillers. I like to keep the stouts basic like Guiness. I'm more a fan of the burnt side as opposed to chocolatey.

You're a fan of true beer. Pilsner is as simple as it gets. But a fresh authentic Pilsner is a thing of beauty. People always regard Pilsner as cheap. That's because north america bastardized it and made it to be cost effective mass produced. True beer drinkers can appreciate an authentic Pilsner.

I grew up south of Boston and was introduced to beer with Sam Adams Boston Lager and Harpoon IPA; I skipped Miller/Bud/Coors entirely. That was...call it 18 years ago and the scene has only gotten more vibrant since then. The US has come a long way in the quality of the brews it produces and there's just too much good stuff to go being a snob about it. Just drink and enjoy.

As for the Big 3 brands, it's all wasted on me. Put a Bud or a Miller on my tongue and I genuninely just can't taste anything but slightly grainy water with some carbonation. That said, if someone puts a free one in my hands I'm not going to be a snobby bitch and turn my nose up at it.

Yep.

Too me, if I'm going to spend $11.99-$13.99 on a 4pk of 16oz'ers or for a 6pk of 12oz'ers, then it better be at least 7.5abv or higher. Cause most times after the last one is gone, I'm usually hankering for one more.

Seems like the a lot of the brewery's put their best imperials or double IPA's in 4pks and charge $12.99 to make ya buy two of them cause 4 beers aint cuttin' it for me.

The way I look at it though, the brewery right down the road from me charges 6-7 bucks for a 16oz pour at 7-8%abv. So at 12.99 for, it's a pretty good deal for that 4pk. Plus I don't have to worry what I look like while drinking in my man cave watching sports.

I'll ask about that. We don't make an Imperial or double. I do know when I bartend an Imperial is poured in a 12 oz snifter. Mainly due to cost and legal alcohol serving.
The brewer pouring you 16oz is excessive. I'm assuming it's a double IPA and not an Imperial. Most Imperials I've seen are even higher abv. I've seen up to 11%

Yeah... most of what I've been describing is referring to DIPA from the brewery. Since their other styles are poured into your usual 16oz glass... I assumed the snifters were 16oz also. I very well could be wrong. The Imperials do usually start at 9% and up here.

One thing I noticed about a year ago, is that when chain sports bars have a seasonal from a brewery, they'll only pour 10oz which totally makes sense from a business standpoint

Same here.... seems like the seasonals have come out earlier over the last 2 years.

Also noticed not just seasonals but a certain beer ( say a winter warmer) from a brewery that once was only available from like November till it's gone... is now coming out a month earlier.

Snifters are generally 12 oz and reserved for beers that have higher abv. So yes. Mainly the imperials

That sports bar serving 10 oz beers are probably doing it out of costs considering most local craft beers don't pay the premium for the taps. They're likely just trying to make margin.

Like I said, technically an Oktoberfest isn't a seasonal. It's just a fancy way to say German lager. You can sell it year round. You can just call it Bitburger

it's just named after the event. There's no actual seasonal thing about it

And when I say seasonal in that incidence, it's a specific beer made by that brewery... like one of their go-to's people anticipate gettin once a year. Like a red imperial ale from Lagunitas "Lucky 13" or Great Lakes out of Cleveland "Nosferatu" are great examples of red ales.

One German style/beer that I was turned onto I really like (other than Lowenbrau in my early days, haha) is Dortmunder. It was one of the first "craft" I had when starting to dabble. Great Lakes makes awesome example.

They were bought out by Labatts and brewed there. There should be government liquor stores that carry that there no? We get them in tall boys here. Search out a Bavarian lager if you liked Lowenbrau. Okanagan Springs makes one here called 1516. The bar I work sometimes has that on regular tap.
You can't really mess up a Bavarian lager. It's only 4 ingredients. Just using German grown malts and hops

Definitely.

I like brown ales, pilseners, pale ales, lagers and sometimes an IPA. I used to be really into the IPAs in the beginning but they started becoming too hoppy and not refreshing anymore so I stopped. I really like a nice kolsch as well as a pacific pale ale. Not a big fan of wheat beers.

I started brewing my own beer using kits and pre-made worts. I made a brown ale last year and ended up getting about 55 bottles out of it. Kept 10 hidden away and left them for a year and opened them up last month. Soooo tasty.

I can't drink domestic beer at all. No taste/flavor. I never drank it though so maybe I never acquired a taste for it.

I started on liquor as I hated the taste of beer. Got into hard cider for a little while but now those are too sweet.

I moved to Portland Maine about 4 years ago and the craft breweries here are great. I've definitely gotten into my fair share of IPAs, if it sounds citrusy I usually enjoy it. The hazier the better in my opinion.

I also enjoy stouts and porters. Not a fan of sours.

Liquor is still my top though. But I like to sip a beer or two over a good meal. I can't really drink more than 2 beers though, too heavy/filling.

i appreciate the science and engineering behind massively produced beer. Cheap beer has it's place, fellas. Respect the classics. It's far more difficult to make a good light and refreshing beer than a bottle of murky brown liquid with cinnamon, extracts, and other bullsh*t in it. Yuck.

Had no idea you live in Portland. I have a summer house on an island in Casco Bay that's been in my family for a few generations. I try and get up there for a week each summer.

Portland, and Maine in general have some great beers. Shipyard, Allagash, Mast Landing, Baxter, etc. are all excellent.

Yeah, and mostly to see if the right beer pairs the right flavors. Bread pudding is a tricky one. Most small batches flop

Although I do really enjoy sours and ciders from time to time.

You guys do any "smoke" flavored Porter's? I've had one before and really liked it, but for some reason the distributor tells the guy at the beer store he refuses to get it. Not sure why.

It was this one:

Our brewmaster tried a couple but not really into it. I find smoke ruins the palate and you can't taste anything after that. I would in an old fashioned.

We canned a salted caramel porter and it's delicious. Then the taproom put it in a nitro tap and my god. The texture and flavor was unreal. Best beer I've ever had. Porters and stouts pair better with sweet spices. If I were to do a smoky I'd prefer to mix with an amber ale.

What made his pour special?

I take it you were at a beer festival so you had a tasting glass (4 oz)? Was it the consistency of his pours?
I'd be interested in what works in different regions in terms of recipes. Right now the big thing here is infusing cocktails in beers. Distilleries is the next big wave with craft gins, vodkas...

8 oz glass for me. Each time he had the glass at a perfect angle and tilted the glass upright with perfect timing just at the halfway point and he would finish with exactly a 1/2" head. He never poured too slowly or at the wrong angle throughout each pour. The nitrogen bubbles will cascade down the glass as the beer settled.

That's a pretty standard pour.

8oz is a lot. You'll get drunk before you get a true experience. That's very generous of the venue to set that up.

Generally depending on the beer and a full pint you want more head. Especially with wheat beers that have a lot of aroma.

Here's an interesting thing about having a good size head with your beer. It prevents bloating. A poured beer with no head will foam in the gut making you full and bloated. If you got no head take a clean napkin and dip it in the beer. It will create a little head for you

I recently am getting more involved in IPA.

I went to Outback and tried their IPA and to this day don't remember which one I tried but it was the best I've had. Now my dumbass has to go back there every time to attempt to find which one on the menu it was.

I see Trader Joe's also have IPA's anyone recommend any from them?

Other than IPA I think the only beer I'd drink is modelo or Heineken.

I like more sweet beer that taste mature if that makes sense. Not that overly sugar shit like angry Orchid

That's a weird statement. You like sweet beer but you prefer IPAs. Traditionally IPAs are citrusy and bitter

Have you tried wheat beers? Maybe a heffenwiesen would be what you'd match with. Heffys are sweet.

If you like more mature beers try ISA's. It's got a little more depth and fruitiness.
But if you want to gradtuate into something more sweet try Leffe first or other blonde ales.

Holy shit. This was the beer I was trying to find after tasting it at outback steakhouse. I ordered an IPA and they must have renamed it to one of their own shit I've been trying to find it since.

This has to be it. I drank one can last night while doing hookah and was tipsy. I dropped the coals on my mat and burned it. That's how much I felt it. It taste really good. I definitely consider myself a fan of IPA's now if they all taste like this.

Dope. We don't carry Sierra Nevada beers. But up here hazy IPAs grow like dandelions. There's a brewery here called Parallel 49th and they got some of the best Hazy IPAs in the world. Their beer called Trash Panda is maybe the best in the business.

Is 'Hazy' a term used to describe the beer or a type of category of the IPA?

Hazy refers to the color of the beer. What makes it that "hazy" is the unfiltered processing with the addition of wheat or apple puree. This gives it a sweetness

Not a beer snob, but I do enjoy craft beer seeing as I once worked at a craft beer distributor. Was too tempting not to try things other than the "norms". They used to have a lot more but lost the rights to a lot.

https://www.glunzbeers.com/

Thinking about trying the Flying Dog Raging Bitch for the name alone :oldlol:

I wouldn't really call this a beer, but other than Florida they have distribution rights to stiegal in all of US. Apparently the owner who died a few years ago was buddies with the owner of Stiegal, and got the rights for a dollar as a favor...What a ****ing steal considering how much money it's got them.
