What are the health tips you either didn't know about or had heard but for whatever reason ignored that you now take seriously and try to stick with?

Any health tips. Can be a food or exercise, or even just the way you sit in a chair when typing, or other habits at work or home, etc

I'll start with an obvious one: GOOD POSTURE when sitting at a desk or using a laptop etc.

If you sit slouched down at a weird angle, and your spine is curved/twisted, and it feels comfortable but it's just... bad posture, YES even if it's comfortable at the time, it IS going to throw your back out of alignment.

stretching.

use to be that id just reach down and touch my toes then straight onto the bball court for me. now the older i get the longer im sitting against the wall stretching out. by the time im 40 ill probably have to get to the gym an hour earlier just to get a full stretch in.

Taking breaks, stretching, drinking water, getting enough sleep.. of course those are really good, but tough to live by daily.

One thing I'll point out that most people might not realize (and I didn't either for a long time):

Have your monitor at the correct height. I am on the taller side and most workstation configurations are for short people (or women). Get your monitor height correct and avoid neck problems down the road.

I've always had gut/digestive related IBS types of pains for as long as I can remember. Taking care of and ensuring that you maintain a healthy balance of probiotics is so important for your gut and for your overall health. Once I started doing that I started feeling a lot better about myself and my physical health.

Another big one that is well-known, yet most people don't do it:

We all need to drink water, regularly, on and off during the day, every day.

Obvious. Yet neglected by most.

Water!

:applause:

Everyone should drink more water!

...

Also, breathing exercises. Controlled, deep breathing does wonders.

Sleeping well (and on your back).

Chewing your food completely instead of scarfing it down (decreases the workload of the stomach and improves bioavailability).

Putting work in the gym, or exercising 3 hours a week.

AT LEAST.

I'd previously only workout a few times a week. 2 hours tops. But have found time to incorporate that extra hour AND some this year. Mental benefits are definitely real. Together with Intermittent fasting, my energy levels have been crazy.

zma is fine, you should be careful with zinc, which can be neurotoxic in excess. You should be monitoring your dietary sources for zinc, while taking zma for the sake of not going overboard with it.

I love long walks, especially in hill terrain, where there are ups and downs. Flat land walking is kind of boring, but still beneficial.

Avoid sins.

Garlic for stomachaches

Be careful about what you say.. try to say positive helpful necessary things

More sunlight exposure up to a certain limit

Dont use too many substances meaning extra lotion shampoo etc

Dont have sex too much

Cruciferous veggies are good for you

Vinegar is also healthy

Yogurt is good too

Try to avoid places with too much stimulation like concerts or loud city districts and opt out to spend time outdoors instead

Keep the mind active in study

Hone in on the things to be grateful for and you won't have time to complain

Exercise, a balanced diet and sleep are the trifecta of good health habits; those should be the focus of any healthy lifestyle. I should stress the importance of also reducing stress and anxiety through religious practice or recreational engagement. Find something healthy you enjoy, especially something you like to do with others and by yourself, whether sports, travel, dining out, etc... and do it as frequently as reasonably possible. Balance is key. Physical, spiritual, emotional, social and financial well being tend to revolve around those four healthy habits.

I gotta stop smoking. I'm down to barely 5 cigs a day (usually less) but I definitely experience shortness of breath. I'm slowly switching to primarily stigs (kinda like juul), but even that is no bueno.

Dumbest habit I ever picked up.

A new perspective: by having an addiction, you actually have a great opportunity.

If you quit cold turkey, not only will you reap the health benefits of not smoking, but you will strengthen your will power. It is so empowering to willfully struggle, as one of our biggest callings in this life is to train the conscious, choosing mind to overpower and override the unconscious mind.

For the life of me, I will never understand how that is humanly possible...and it's a common thing for people to smoke 2 packs a day.

That's 40 ****ing cigs...how don't you get headaches? Your throat doesn't feel sore at all, not even after a pack? Do you experience any of this when smoking so much? Where do you even find the time to smoke that much lol. I know my uncle for example, at his peak he was smoking 3 packs a day (UNIMAGINABLE for me...I can't comprehend how it's possible) and said he never felt out of breath or anything, never got a headache from smoking. Homie still kicking it to this day smoking a solid pack and a half, about to turn 60 in a couple of years.

At my peak I smoked like 10-12 cigs per day, and even that I could tell was too much. I'd get headaches and my blood pressure is high as a result (has to do with my sedentary lifestyle over the years, too. Not fat, but I'm overweight for my height.). High for my age is 130/80, sometimes it is higher, and more often than not lower...but it doesn't change that it's not ideally what it should be for my age.

Right, but you're just putting on a band-aid. The wound won't heal unless you stitch it shut.

Like I said, I smoke stigs now (disposable ecig, just like juul) and am down to 5 cigs max a day, usually less. But I'm still a smoker. Gotta throw that shit while you are young and it still hasn't put a stamp in your book of life.

For real, come to the USA.

Pick a spot though... like I said in your other thread, this place is vast AF. It could easily be like 9 different countries, each with their own distinct sense of general culture.

West coast or mid-Atlantic would be my recommendations.

I know that you believe I am going to burn in hell.

Actually, I don't know the future.
I believe only Allah knows the Unseen.

But I believe people who throughout their lives all the way until the end reject Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) are damned forever.

Given that fact, does it ever come as a surprise to you how often I "nail it"? Because you have quite often recognized my perspectives as good ones.

No, it's not surprising because there's such a broad spectrum of knowledge out there. Someone can know about psychology or mathematics and be ignorant about Commandments/Prohibitions in Religious Scriptures or how to manage a business and vice versa etc.

You studied Actuary thoroughly as well as music and having conquered particular substance abuse are in a good position to give advice to someone trying to quit cigarettes. You're the right guy for the job as you have the XP for it.

I very much respect your capacity to do that btw, given my distance from your ideologies and some of the offensive things I have said to you.

Truth, justice, honesty, ethics, trustworthiness, giving due credit---these things are essential to the Deen.

We are, among other things, taught to
a) that might doesn't make right--RIGHT makes right.
b) pray for the OTHER person to say the truth so both parties can submit to it.

Bah my body is already failing. Gimme good skin.

Shave, witch Hazel, face lotion w sunscreen. Every day. Then there's no need to put on sunscreen on your body if you're just walking into work or w e but if you're working outside or sitting out on someone's deck for a BBQ it's probably a smart decision to wear sunscreen. Imo of course. It takes like two minutes to put sunscreen on your arms n legs. Don't need it thick and don't need to reapply unless you're really out all day.

I'm just saying, that and probably dudes who never drink fukn water are the two things that are like wai.

And I got dark skin. No one is immune to sun dmg.
