Im one of them old geezers shouting at the top of me lungs "hip hop sucks!! it aint like it used to be!!!"
And for a large part I still feel the same way.
There's been some decent-good rap out there, but the overwhelming majority is trash. Hate to say it....
Naw...
It is what it is....
Trap is garbage
But there's been a slow resurgence of dope rappers. They've been putting out work for a while, but a shift is starting to happen and that shift (although it's not them exclusively) starts with the Griselda Records (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKKewhmBhAo) camp.
Westside Gunn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiZWaWXubIw), Conway (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkbDPpAQnRM) and specially Benny the Butcher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ky4mDGuXis) have been on a tear lately. They've aligned themselves with Em and just signed with Jay Z. They've been putting out records for years now but have been getting tons of shine as of late appearing on multiple shows. And they have the energy that's reminiscent of Wu when they came out. A very raw and street lyrical style.
They come off other rappers that have ben killing it for years such as Roc Marciano (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86cp7RlVuWw), Mayhem Lauren (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNz0RsHx-1o), Hus Kingpin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViG-lqmdBfA), and 38 Spesh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6i9hC96yy8) just to name a few.
One cat though, one dope as f*ck dude has received little shine and deserves props is RJ Payne (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT5cyAzEqHc). Imo one of the sickest to come out in a decade. His 'If Cocaine Could Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTnTO4C267I&t=1132s)' series of mixtapes are pure hip hop masterclass.
Im sure I'm forgetting tons of other dudes that are dropping dope shit. Also check out DJ Muggs' albums. He's dropping tons and tons of dope collabs.
I'll leave you with this cypher...

Hip hop is coming back from the underground.
There's still dope dudes like Skyzoo, Joey Bada$$ and others that have been dropping classic material for years as well.
