Neo and Trinity are back :lebronamazed:

Get ready to re-enter the Matrix.

Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct a fourth film set in the world of “The Matrix,” with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement on Tuesday.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

In addition to Wachowski, the script was also written by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski is also producing with Grant Hill. Sources say the film is eyed to begin production at the top of 2020.

Warner Bros. has been trying for the last of couple years to find a way to get back into “The Matrix” universe, but a hold-up over producing rights slowed the project down. Over the past couple of months, the studio saw an opportunity to ramp up development, with Reeves boasting a strong summer that included box office hits “John Wick 3” and “Toy Story 4” and a script from Wachowski that drummed up excitement.

Plot details are currently unknown, as is how the role of Morpheus will be handled, originally played by Laurence Fishburne. Some sources say the role may be recast for a younger take.

The three previous films —“The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” — have collectively earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office. All three were written and directed by Lana and her sister, Lilly, and starred Reeves and Moss.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowski said.

The first “Matrix” had its 20th anniversary this year, marked by special screenings at select AMC locations starting on Aug. 30.

Wachowski is represented by WME, Circle of Confusion and attorney Peter Grossman. Reeves is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham. Moss is represented by WME, longtime manager Elizabeth Hodgson and attorney Bob Lange.

The 2nd and 3rd were kinda meh

The lore is definitely not everyones cup of tea

I think without the time constraint of having to story write 2 sequels back to back on little notice this upcoming one might actually be decent. Maybe not

Hey this is good news... they're just continuing on with the storyline rather than replacing Keanu with Michael B Jordan.

Could be that MBJ is slated to become the next Neo, and that'd be fine because there won't be any "diversity" for the sake of "diversity" and they won't be pretending Keanu was never a thing. All good.

You know Will Smith was initially preferred to cast the Neo role in 99 right? He shot it down

Also Sean Connery was originally approached about playing Morpheus, not Lawrence Fishburn.

yeah, Wachoski bros were pretty fresh and actors probably chuckled at the awkward script

Will's explanation why he turned it down does make sense

Reeves is overrated imo. I dont understand the hype about matrix and his john wick series. A lot of mediocre movies.

I only enjoyed "a devils advocate" and maybe "constintine"

I agree, Keanu fanclub is kind of a cult imo and John Wick series is diluted with same material

But he's a A-lister now despite his corny acting early career

And if you look at his body of work most his films are action thriller and he doesn't use much dialogue

Directors loves guys like Cruise and Reeves because they don't need stuntmen

The Matrix movies suck.

First one is pretty good, but I thought the second was pretty meh. Never even bothered to see three. Is this really a series that anybody cares enough about to come back?

I was hoping they would get a fresh cast and do a prequel with the first Matrix version. When it was a too perfect world (virtual-reality), around the time humans blacked the sky and forced underground for warmth.

The only reason they are even making this is because Keanu Reeves is so popular right now after the John Wick movies. If not for his popularity sky rocketing over the last half dozen years no studio would would give the Wachowski's the kind of budget this is going to get after all their massive box office failures over the last 10 years.

idk Matrix has a HUGE cult following

Infact being a 80's baby i'd even go to say it's our generations 'Star Wars', that or Lord of the Rings OT

The series can go in multiple directions - sequel/prequels lots of lore

The Matrix Revolution did by far the worst of any of the Matrix movies. Again, the studio is just hoping they can use Reeve's popularity to get fans into the theaters.

I always held the first Matrix in high esteem and figured if it was a stand alone film it would have been even more of classic.

I tried rewatching it recently though and it

The Matrix was brilliant storytelling that resonated differently in 1999 than it would have today. Nowadays, we have high caliber auteur-level direction and writing within even streaming sources.

I'm a huge Terminator fan so the whole A.I. destroying mankind stories are interesting. Having humans be in a virtual stasis and act as batteries for the machines is a terrifying concept lol.

If one were to watch it now, not an adult when it came out, it def wouldn't resonate the same. It's a product of the time in many ways yet also a timeless story in modern times.
