When are we going to stop elevating athletes and start elevating basketball players with actual skills?

Such an embarrassment.

Speaks volumes about the degradation of American society.

Sick of it.

It's all about ego's and narratives, and shortcutting and superteams now....

Not about winning. In that regard Kawhi is a lost species.

At least for team USA I would have thought playing with the best of the best of the NBA would be enticing and at the very least a positive learning experience to further develop.
Fans in Australia were expecting to see the likes of Harden, Lowrey, Davis, CJ and Simmons, and that's how it was advertised. Instead we got Lopez, Plumlee and White.
Maybe FIBA needs to work with the NBA and other world leagues more to schedule the competition so the big names will play.

While I agree with the sentiment it's basically impossible to take this seriously from someone as ignorant about basketball as OP is.

I knew this team was going to be trash ...

Esp when D Mitchell and Kemba are your best players, but they’re in play as the worst Team USA possibly ever. At least since pros were participating.

Yes inferior to 2004 and 2002.

Absolutely pathetic that they already have a loss on their record and breaking that long ass winning streak.

They lost to Carlos Arroyo in a real game in 2004. This team lost an exhibition game on the road to one of the top teams.

He isn't wrong, though. That the best players on the team are Kemba Walker and Donovan Mitchell is pathetic. The team doesn't even have a single top 20 american player.

What difference does it make?

A loss is a loss. And I guarantee you the competition that that 2004 team was facing is better than this current competition.

Losing a game that means something is different than one that means nothing. The competition is certainly better than 2004. The world keeps getting better.

I wouldn't be rooting for the USA to fail no matter who was on the team because I am American

I’m not rooting for them to fail.

I’m acknowledging reality about them. Yeah, that Team USA wasn’t taking anything remotely seriously at that point. And wasn’t building their rosters with the purpose for international play. They were thrown together at the last minute.

This situation is different. This team should be more serious and more prepared, yet still lost.

And no just because it’s ten years later doesn’t mean the international groups themselves are automatically better. Same goes for our squad. Do you know how dumb that sounds?

They're as serious as they can be considering how many players have dropped out. They lost an exhibition game. The world is a lot better than it was 15 years ago. Puero Rico might not be but Australia certainly is. The 2004 team is certainly worse than this one as is the other one that got beat before that
