Example, the year 1910, people just pronounce it "Nineteen ten"

The year 2010, people pronounce it "Two thousand and ten"

Because the year 19010 is yet to come.

Mfer what :oldlol:

Hes saying why dont people say 1910 like "one thousand, nine hundred and ten".

OP, it has to do with shortening it. Whatever the shortest way to say, that's how people say it. It just so happens that "twenty ten" and "two thousand ten" are both relatively the same length, meanwhile "nineteen ten" and "one thousand, nine hundred and ten" are drastically different.

The more I think about it the better this question is.

Why do we say nineteen hundred but no one has ever referred to 2000 as twenty hundred? :lol

The simple answer is "because it sounds weird"...but that's only true because we've been saying it one way and not the other for so long now.

Maybe they will once a century passes. Twenty one hundred sounds a lot better than the year two thousand, one hundred.

Isn't it because there is a base ten figure in "two thousand" for that part of the number being stated, and it's so rare that we have this opportunity, that we choose to add to it in English?

1910 is not comparable to 2010. It's more comparable to 2910. I bet people are not pronouncing that two thousand nine hundred ten.
