View Full Version : Harden officially patents the Step Back J

Harden on his signature move: "You know how Mike has his fadeaway and Dirk has his one-leg and [Kareem] had the sky hook, I want my stepback to be one of those moves that last forever. So when I travel around the world and I see little kids saying, 'Hey James, I got a stepback!'—I love to see that."

Stepback jumpers have been a thing since shooting a basketball was a thing.

I was shooting stepbacks before Harden was even drafted.

No one has come to CLOSE to the range and consistency on a step-back jumper that Harden has demonstrated. People were doing jump-hooks before Kareem too.

Traveling became non-existant the moment the league decided Bran was their "next MJ" project.

Harden just benefiting.

Right? He’ll, I was watching NBA TV yesterday and they had a Kobe marathon on. They were playing Game 4 of the 2000 Finals Lakers vs Pacers, and I saw Reggie Miller shoot a step back three. Reggie used to do that shit all the time.

About the only shot in basketball that could be patented is Kareem’s skyhook, and maybe not even that, because I’ve seen clips of George Mikan doing a proto-sky hook.

None of those were good shots... I'd take fundamentals over the ability.

uh...how? Harden has never once in his career shot 40%+ plus. Steph Curry has NEVER SHOT UNDER 40%. He's also a 33% career 3pt shooter in the playoffs while chucking up 7.3 a game. Idiot fukking clown.

Remember how we were all worried over kids emulating Curry's long range threes and ruining the game? Will now we have this to look forward to on every playground and high school game.

If MJ played now, he would double Harden in almost every category. Harden is nothing more than a product of a flawed rule set.

Imagine thinking this is an effective move deep in the playoffs when your physically and mentally drained. There's a reason why past greats never used it very often. Theres better and more efficient ways to score. The step back is bail out shot for players who arnt talented enough to create better looks in other ways.
