Legit if it weren't for Bran stans being as delusional as they are and the fact that they straight up constantly diss the sport of basketball and it's players/history I would have no problem admitting Bran is top 3-5.

MJ didn't patent every move in the game and even if he did the occasional reverse layup, he didn't rely on it nearly as much as Rose nor he executed it so aesthetically as Rose.

Rose's reverse layup is simply unmatched because he can do it with either hand off either leg (or two legs) and despite doing it under the rim, nobody can stop him.

Rose isn't even close to Jordan in the ability of performing the reverse layup, nor is he even close to him in terms of aesthetics

Not even trolling, but when we think of signature, it's the act of associating one thing to another. Why is it that whenever someone crumples up a piece of paper...they turn to the trash can, lean back in their chair, and...."Kobeee"!

I'm not saying Kobe DID IT better, that's another convo. But it's his signature lol it is what it is. To be fair, I grew up in the Kobe era meanwhile you might have grown up in the Jordan era, so we have a different perspective.

MJ had a very special wirey sort of aethetics to his athleticism where he was constantly adjusting mid air and thinking of his counter on the spot in the middle of the damn air but let's not say the aesthetics weren't even close. Rose in his own right was unlike anything we have ever seen aethetically. He was special as well when it came to athleticism

But it ain't about that.

Jordan' fadeaway was a lot more effective than Kobe's. He had a staggering 10 inch VI advantage on Kobe so this isn't surprising. Kobe's fadeaway just isn't on the level of Bird', Malone's, or Jordan's.

Nah, he didn't use the turnaround nearly as much as 2nd 3peat MJ. Jordan had broader shoulders and was able to use that to knock the defender off from being able to seriously contest it, and being a better jumper than Kobe got more air and distance fading back. Kobe had to employ alot more fakes and high archers expressly because he didn't get the same height/distance.

If Kobe has a 'signature' shot, it's probably more that baseline reverse tomahawk like he pulled on Garnett and Sprewell, and if he didn't have the dunk he'd convert a one handed reverse off the glass. His use of the baseline is more Kobe's signature than any other shot.

Check out how insane this is. They started recording fadeway stats during MJ with the wizards.

His final year, 82 games.
https://stats.nba.com/player/893/shooting/?Season=2002-03&SeasonType=Regular%20Season
85/107 79.4 %

Kobe highest scoring season, 80 games.

63/95 66.3 % (only two were three pointers)

Awful? Maybe later in his career after all the injuries when he took more bad shots but he was a good 3-point shooter during his title runs and the mid-2000s. Prime Kobe could shoot about 5 a game at a 35-38% clip and that's before the league adjusted to the new rules, Kobe was shooting 35%-ish without the spacing or the offensive sets you see teams using today. Nice try though.

You dont understand that this is not Jordan's go to move, but it is Rose's. Jordan had an incredible vertical and athleticism. Rose post 2012 is not a high flyer, so his layups are all about finesse and contortion. Jordan had a superhuman leaping ability, so he can do anything in the air. Meanwhile Rose doesn't jump up as much as he jumps forward after accelerating. Jordan doesn't do his reverse layups at the speed Rose does them. Hell no.

I still have trouble wrapping my head around how it was even ****ing possible, and the immense awareness and coordination to weave not just the ball but his entire body between all those defenders 3-4 times and then finish, all while in the air

Just completely insane

I was unaware that they had stats for it, very impressive. Jordan's especially.

Regardless of who did it better, I'd say for each individual it was both of their signature shots. Idk why we (myself included) began this discussion with the assumption that only one of them can have the fadeaway as their signature shot.

Those stats are impressive as **** though, for both of them. For how difficult of a shot it is, to shoot that high of a percentage...Jordan almost 80%, Kobe 66%...truly amazing.

Just to have it clear what I'm discussing here.

Do you think:

1. Rose was better at the reverse layup.

2. The reverse layup was Rose's most characteristic move while Jordan had some other, hence calling it Rose's signature move and not Jordan's. He wasn't necesarilly better than Jordan at it.

3. Rose was better at the reverse layup and was his most characteristic move.
