Are skaters (skaetboarders) naturally territorial?

This happened twice with me. Went a basketball court right beside a skatepark where the court and skatepark merge. Both times nobody using the court but the skatepark occupied. As soon as we starting a game skateboarders skating through the court, even through the paint while we we're playing. It was clear they were trying to bump us out

I used to skate. I don't remember being this territorial. They might be more dangerous that race groups hanging out :lol

I wasn't a big time skater, but I had my board I'd ride around the neighborhood...to an from the park, my friends were all better skaters than me when it comes to tricks, I just liked riding around on it :lol Loved watching them play skate, and when it came down to the last letter or two everyone is hitting their boards off the concrete as the finalists are gaining momentum to pull off a trick the other cannot replicate :D


Shit was dope and it was everywhere...truly haven't seen a kid on a skateboard in years. They've even closed down all the local skateparks...only 1 left.

The reason I mention that is because maybe that is the reason they are so territorial, because they don't have many places left to skate (even tho back in the day we'd skate anywhere and everywhere).

It was the opposite for us. We didn't have a lot of concrete skateparks. we were force to skate in empty parking lots and steps at libraries. But it was considered illegal. Now kids have lots of access to skateparks. I get the territorialism, but to skate in on a basketball court in between a game is pretty dickish.

I mean that's what I'm saying, we did that as well. In my opinion, it was ALWAYS funner to skate in an empty parking lot rather than a dedicated skatepark...it was just so much more organic.


The whole thing about skateboarding is the minimalist approach to it. You have a piece of wood on wheels, go do cool shit with it lol. I'm glad I was a part of the last generation to grow up without the whole tech boom of the modern world. Bike riding, skate boarding, man hunt...that shit was so much fun. I just don't see kids outside playing like that around the neighborhood.

If one occured and knowing there's a park load of skater I'd go to my car and grab my security flashlight. One or more kids could be in the hospital or dead. But yeah, being a skater once myself you just can't start shit with them or think these kids are pushovers. Avoiding this altercation is the best scenario
