Yep.
We'll see.
It's supposed to hit the middle of FL first, which is rare and where I am.
We have a metal roof and a big oak tree hanging over the house; the owner just had it trimmed a few weeks ago.

Heading to Kiawah Island, SC for the weekend. Keeping a close watch on this MFer. If the high pressure system currently centered over Bermuda stays strong then the storm most likely will stay South and pass over Florida. If the high pressure weakens then the bastard will turn North and tear up the coast.

Zero problem at all unless you're a worthless bum living out in the street or in a trailer park, so actually OP and stalkerforlife might be in trouble here. Let's hope the storm takes em, quality of life will improve by every measurement. Addition by subtraction.

Not every part of the country builds their houses out of cardboard and wrapping tape.
I went through Katrina too, here in FL. Right after all the kids in the neighbourhood were out playing basketball, skating you name it. Fun times. When we went back to school they started bringing in refugee kids from Louisiana. That was the only notable difference.

If you've literally never lost power in a hurricane it's because you've been through maybe one or two of them at the most or you live in a VERY new part of town that has been developed entirely for hurricane adaptation.
Literally all it takes is one old tree taking on a bunch of water, snapping on a power line, and you're out for a week depending on how widespread the rest of the damage is.

You could use solar as a backup. I was watching a vid about Tesla's new solar roof. I was at work only half paying attention but you can use it to charge a battery which could replace the grid or to be a backup to the grid.
Not sure how cost effective it is but at the very least power outages would no long be an issue.

Hurricanes can be very serious.
Downplaying them is not smart, especially if your house has huge trees hovering over it.
Losing power for days can be really bad, especially if you have kids.
And hurricanes cause flooding and can spawn tornadoes.

If it comes up the coast this will be the 4th hurricane in 2 years I've felt the effects of. There are tons of huge trees in my neighborhood and during the last 3 storms several of them fell, smashing cars, houses, taking out power lines and blocking roads.
I'm just hoping it stays well south of the SC coast at least until Sunday.

Regardless of if this weak ass storm is Cat 1 Cat 2 or Cat Stevens, by the end of the week everything in my life will be back to normal and I'll get a nice paycheque from my job (this perhaps another concept you might have trouble with).

I'm not scared of it in the sense that I'm not secure in myself. I'm in no way fearful for my safety or anyone around me.

Those bitches are expensive and to run AC you need a very powerful one. Most of the affordable ones can only power a few lights and maybe one or two appliances.
That being said I live close to downtown so any power disruptions are minimal. During Florence our power was only out for 4 hours.

People panicking around here and buying up all the gas.
I had to get 93 grade at 3.30 a gallon, but I wouldn't of even had that if I didn't go in the store because there are out of order signs on all the pumps. The girl told me I can get 93. I guess she's saving gas for whoever she wants to because people won't even pull in with those signs on the pumps.

This idiot can never admit when he's wrong :oldlol: They sharpied in Alabama after National Weather Service said he was incorrect
On Wednesday, it appears the White House attempted to retroactively justify a tweet that President Trump issued over the weekend in which he warned, erroneously, that Alabama would be impacted by Hurricane Dorian.
In a White House video released Wednesday, Trump displays a modified National Hurricane Center “Cone of Uncertainty” forecast, dated from 11 a.m. on Aug. 29, indicating Alabama would in fact be impacted. The graphic appears to have been altered with a Sharpie to indicate a risk the storm would move into Alabama from Florida.
“We had, actually, our original chart was that it was going to be hit — hitting Florida directly,” Trump said as he displayed the graphic from Aug. 29, which now includes an added appendage extending the cone into Alabama. “That was the original chart,” Trump said. “It could’ve, uh, was going towards the Gulf,” Trump explained in the video.

Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east. #alwx

Asked about the altered hurricane forecast chart at a White House event on opioids Wednesday afternoon, Trump said his briefings included a “95 percent chance probability” that Alabama would be hit. When asked if the chart had been drawn on, Trump said: “I don’t know; I don’t know.”
Trump’s tweet on Sunday came as Dorian was hitting the Bahamas as a high-end Category 5 hurricane, and sparked enough public alarm that it prompted the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Ala. to bluntly tweet 20 minutes later: “Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian.”

Sharpie was most likely done by one of his aides because they knew they had to quiet down the petulant child before he went on a firing spree baby tirade. Only one year left - why lose a well paying job? Let the fat little buffoon get his chocolate candy piece to chew on. Just keep him quiet for one year.

F*CK NO!!!
There is a reason Cubans build their homes with concrete roofs. A lot of upkeep (cave in with time - requiring a refinish), not the prettiest but it can withstand most hurricanes like a champ.
Shingle roofing with wooden structural support..... might as well sign your death certificate :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm. It's true however, there is no home insurance business in Cuba - so they better build them like tanks.
Personal experience....good luck dealing them tho. Unless you know the ins and out of the "claim process" + some extra after much experience...
Same shit in Florida codes. At least I can make bank from a lightly damaged roof, or a bit of water leakage if I'm not hit hard in one of my properties. Don't ask.
Ohh well. Not like anything that's gonna be rebuilt will be made to last another one. The Bahamas has been getting off easily for like the past decade. This one collected the debt.

Looks like the Outer Banks are the only location to get any real damage. We got a little water and wind on the coast from Hitlon Head up to Wilmington but nothing major. I have in laws that live on Pawley's Island and they didn't eve lose power. After all the hype Dorian for us has been a nothing burger. It's the Mueller Report of hurricanes.

Glad it stalled out and you are good. Looks like it shot its load over the Bahamas. Death toll expected in the hundreds.

Yeah, like most natural disasters it's the poorest places that get it the worst. Kinda like how tornados seem to always hit trailer parks.
