Yesterday, while attempting to beat her own land speed record, the 52,000 horsepower jet-powered car driven by racer, fabricator, and television personality Jessi Combs crashed in the Alvord Desert in Oregon, killing her, as local news reports. Combs was 39 years old and held the title of “fastest woman on four wheels” after breaking 398 mph in that same North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger in 2013.
Combs was attempting to beat her previous record, and had attempted it as recently as last year, when she managed a 483.227 mph shakedown run before mechanical problems ended the attempt, as noted on the team’s bio page for Jessi.
Combs was on television frequently, appearing on Overhaulin’, All Girls Garage, and even served as a host of Mythbusters.

Damn
Reminds me of the story a few days ago of a young couple who were killed in a crash 10 minutes after they were married. The same justice of peace who wed them was also their coroner

hoping someone leaks crash footage out of morbid curiosity
i'm guessing @ 400mph the desert salt bed turns you into a 1/2 mile tumbleweed sanding the flesh of your corpse
do these jet cars have some type of auto ejection fail safe?

I'm sorry to hear of her death. What she has been doing is a dangerous endeavor, but it's always a surprise to hear that someone has died doing what they routinely do.

I heard about this. That must be extremely devastating for their families and friends. This was one of those stories you see in your feed and pass up on reading. I had no desire to find out more.

does that really take any extraordinary skill or talent though?
you hop in something that goes fast?
at least nascar drivers have to manuever the vehicle around a million turns.

While seemingly a ridiculous statement, the eyeball refresh rate required to be a NASCAR driver is actually quite insane.
You also have to have a shit ton of endurance because the amount of stress your body endures from doing that stupid shit is also quite insane.
You have to be in far better shape to drive in NASCAR than to play golf or bowl, etc.

but 'anybody' can't do it .. or won't do it or aren't willing to do it .. because they're afraid of what just happened .. she was fearless, I'll give her that
