View Full Version : Is human life really all that valuable?

Is it? What makes human life so special? The ideals of “human life is so sacred and special” is merely a projection from our own biological ingrained motives of self preservation. What do most humans do for the rest of the world? Are a lot of these people really making a difference? Spreading ideas, happiness, and joy? Or are they mindlessly consuming food, water, and media nonsense? What makes a human’s life more valuable than a dog’s?

The answer to that question depends entirely on whether or not God exists.

If God does not exist, no, a human life is no more valuable than that of a dog's, as everything would be meaningless.

Life itself would be meaningless.

Further than life... existence itself would be meaningless.

Having children made life valuable.

Before that, it wasn't valuable to me.

You're speaking in personal terms relative to your perception, which has wholeheartedly been assigned by yourself and exists only within your mind.

He's talking about objective reality... truth.

They are two very different things.

this just nihilism. Yea as shogon said, if you dont believe in a god it's not difficult to come to this conclusion.

kurt cobain said the same exact thing in an interview about a year before he domed himself.

how many parents you know were mean alcoholics despite having kids?

Having kids is a life changing ordeal that creates a paradigm shift for sure. But still the added value for human life you gained really is misinterpreted intense love you have for your children which is a biological instilled mechanism crafted for our survival.

For the god thing I do believe in god still. However if god created all things, what is to say that a dog or a cow

That depends... only God would know for sure, but given our intelligence level relative to a dog's, it would seem likely.

by that logic orcas elephants and more would be just as valuable as us.

i think were underestimating having hands and thumbs... brain power wise they are probably smarter than the average american.

theyre also much more powerful and majestic creatures... would you rather be an alpha 400 lb tiger or some npc lib out here in the states? (or a 3rd worlder barely making it sifting through shit)

humans have overrated themselves.

What does intelligence level have to do with it though? Beyond our own self serving interests, what have we done with our intelligence for the planet that dogs or other animals haven

If they were as smart as us we would be able to verbally communicate with them. We can't... they aren't.

Mental illness and substance abuse problem, these people were going down that path with or without kids. For most people not too far gone, kids is a life viewpoint changing event.

What does intelligence level have to do with it though? Beyond our own self serving interests, what have we done with our intelligence for the planet that dogs or other animals haven’t? We haven’t done anything but destroy and kill on a massive scale for our own propagation. And while we are more intelligent than other animals, does that disvalue their own feelings and emotions? Is a child with down syndrome’s life less valuable than a child with an iq of 100?

Again, you'd have to ask God.

It's just my best guess that in God's eyes we'd have some sort of importance given how blessed we are in comparison to those animals... my opinion at least... there is something to be said for the benefit of ignorance. But the animals all also at our mercy...

intelligence is the ability to learn quickly and understand. and its a direct function of the physical brain.

even if you were right on the main point, thats a dumb argument for why they wouldnt be.

In my interpretation, with this blessing we need to be infinitely more graceful. Perhaps our intelligence is not a blessing but a curse. I do think sometimes that ignorance truly is bliss.

Are you making the argument that elephants and orcas are smarter than about 40-50% of American citizens?
