No soft calls, better D, it's fun.

People should watch Euroleague. The quality of basketball is really high, and there is a lot less spacing than in the NBA.

This

I remember when the Euroleague was considered soft, the big question for the 90s Bulls was how was Toni Kukoc gonna adapt to the physical play of PFs back then...and Bulls management fears were confirmed, Toni had a tough time playing on the block, he got abused by Anthony Mason, Davis brothers (Pacers), Oakley, Larry Johnson etc.

Toni was a very good role player, never became a top 20 NBA player...I have no doubt he would be a perennial All Star in today's pusssy era where the EL is now the more physical league

This is obvious. NBA is soft with the ticky-tac fouls. League rules don't allow you to be physical because the league wants to protect the players and keep them on the court as many games as possible to make as much money as possible. Hence why the NBAPA has helped with back-to-back games and three games in four nights deal.

Spurs m8

No shit hahahaha

Anyone who watches basketball outside of the nba knows this.

Aussie league is way tougher than the modern day nba....Harden would leave the court crying every game and also average about 2ppg

The modern day NBA is legit the softest league in the world.

Not really working out for them is it?

In fact, I think the softer rules might contribute.

All these injuries are to tall players who play the perimeter. PG, Hayward, Durant, Cousins, KP.

It's the stop and go, the change of direction. Tall people are not meant to move like that.

Now just imagine if Kemba was going against NBA players like Hakeem or Kemp instead of soft euros

That's why today's 3-and-D skillsets and layup/threes skillsets would average like 6 ppg in the physical 90's

Back when the spacing didn't exist for today's open threes/layups shot allocation, contested shots were the standard against unspaced defenders and clogged paints - unspaced courts and the resulting need to score ON defenders forced everyone to develop their own unique way of scoring - that's why everyone's game looked individually-unique back then (i.e. bird, kareem, mcdoo, wilkes, english, king, magic, maravichetc)

^^^ these were individually-unique games designed to handle physicality.. there's no guarantee that guys like curry would develop the physicality or contested mid-range ability that maravich had to excel in that era.. it's possible he would've become a soccer player instead back then

Question: Could MJ shoot the 3-point percentages and attempts needed today to win?

Answer: he already did - he won the 93' championship by shooting 39% on 3.8 attempts in the playoffs, and he also won the 92' and 93' Finals by shooting 41% on 4.3 attempts - that's better than kawhi's shooting to win the 19' ECF (34% on 5.1 attempts), and his memorable series vs Philly (same)

Furthermore, MJ shot 35.2% on 2 2 attempts for the entire 85-93' playoffs - again, that's a better percentage than kawhi needed to win the East last year

It shows his skill level

63 points against zero spacing.... on all two's... No open jumpers for an extra point like today's game

And he was good at threes - he won the 93' championship by shooting 39% on 3.8 attempts in the playoffs, and he also won the 92' and 93' Finals by shooting 41% on 4.3 attempts - that's better than kawhi's shooting to win the 19' ECF (34% on 5.1 attempts), and his memorable series vs Philly (same)

If you compare it with regular season of Nba, 100% true.

1- Players mostly play with their emotions for their countries.

2- Most of players do jot play in Nba, so this is a great chance to show their skills.

3- Organization is directed by federation not a company. Main goal of it is doing sports not making money like Nba.

Yet everyone who posted in this thread will watch more nba games than euroleague games this year, and will continue to do so every year beyond this one. Why not switch over if the modern game is so terrible?

FIBA / EuroLeague is the modern game.

NBA has been copying it for like the last 20 years now. NBA is always behind now on what is "modern basketball".

Hell, Mike D'Antoni used the same offense of the team he played for in Italy in the 1970s with the Suns.............USA sports and NBA acted like it was some kind of new creation that was never seen before.........it was just 1970s Italian League.

The Warriors of recent years are claimed as some kind of new basketball creation...........when teams in the EuroLeague were playing like that already in the early 2000s........

The main problem with the NBA is that it isn't modern at all, with no creativity from its coaches and a small number of guys with great skills to go along with their size and athleticism (guys like Durant) - so the league makes candy ass rules and turns it into a pansy league.

Then they brag endlessly about the hugely inflated stats, and use that as an argument to prove how incredible the players and coaches are (Morey is a joke, and gets called "a genius").

The fantasy might hold up for some casual fans that don't understand basketball when they send 10-12 all NBA level players at a FIBA tournament (even then objective viewers can see them barely beating European teams on numerous occasions)........

But send a team of just good NBA rotation players, and the current NBA gets severely exposed, even with the team having coaches like Kerr and Popovich.

They have made the players so soft - the US players almost looked shocked when they realized Turkey was a more physical team than them.

Euroleague
