View Full Version : The NBA MVP drops 13 points against Brazil.....

Did anyone watch the game? What happened?

So embarrassing. This is the player that our league manufactured into an MVP caliber player and star....

It used to be that the talent in the NBA was so far above international play that I would simply check the news and say "Oh look, another win."

Now at this rate the talent in our country is on a steep decline.

We keep bringing in foreign players and college athletes with very little fundamental skill because they don't need skill to be successful in the league. It's asinine.

This past season of basketball was honestly down right atrocious and I fear that the trend will continue for at least another 5-10 years until league owners and coaches come together and petition for a better product.

This was perhaps the weakest MVP in a LONG time. Giannis is a decent player but he is only good because of his physical dominance. His skill level leaves A LOT to be desired and he has very GLARING weaknesses in his offensive game.

Dude is not a closer whatsoever and that has everything to do with his restrictive offensive skillset. Would be amazing if he is able to take that next step but for now he won't be winning anything.

I haven't been impressed by an MVP in almost 20 years because the league is choosing their MVPs either a couple of years too early or a couple of years too late.

Too much about narratives and story lines especially nowadays. Giannis was pushed as an MVP candidate for a couple of years now, same with Harden. All the media had to do was push a narrative to influence the voters.

For any year for Harden to win MVP it would have been last year. I don't like his game by any means but with all the injuries the Rockets had he buckled down and worked out several hours throughout the day, running the bleachers before games and hitting the weight room after games to stay in peak physical shape just to keep his team afloat.

I don't know why the media didn't push how hard Harden worked enough. His work ethic was on a completely different level.

I may sound old and jaded but Giannis's performance represents everything I dislike about the modern league. And people say that the talent in this league is "greater". Kenny Smith said it best, the NBA is like a neighborhood now because every team/house is starting to look the same. It's annoying as hell.

What's the difference between how the Bucks play and how the Rockets play? Or how Toronto plays?

Very little. They will all space the floor and shoot. Every team wants to do it, and the reason a team won't is because they don't have the personnel to do it.

I've seen Giannis make fade-aways in the post. I've seen him pull-up like KD with a defender in his face. He just doesn't do it enough. What happeneed to players putting up 500 shots before and after practice like Kobe? What happened to players doing shooting drills? Chris Mulin literally wrote the book on it. There is no excuse. Steph Curry's drill is a remix of Mulin's drills.

I'm tired of watching "incomplete" talent enter the league. I miss players being ready. I took certain players like Kobe and Billups and Kawhi for granted because they are not the norm. Most players don't improve at the rate that they do and more importantly, into complete players that can score, pass, rebound, and defend.

If the game continues to go at the rate that it is now then I'm going to do what I did before when basketball bored me and start betting to make things interesting for myself. But I used to be a gambling addict so....

He got exposed

His game is so limited and predictable, he's god awful in halfcourt and can't do anything unless he's surrounded by 4 other good shooters

The NBA has transformed into a thinly disguised track and field competition.

Giannis is the NBA triple-jump champ. I'd like to have seen him attempt it for real.

Westbrook, Lebron etc, all these guys are like 60 yard sprinters.

Not really basketball players.

That same Greek team, minus Giannis, would have beaten Brazil by 15-20 points.

So what. Mj only averaged 14 and 17 the two years he played in the Olympics. I'll be honest I didn't see the game but only scoring 12 points in a summer game dosnt really mean anything

A 39 year old 6-4 tall shooting guard, that plays in Brazil's domestic league was guarding him and basically won from a physical standpoint the whole time.

The NBA giving Giannis the MVP award might be the biggest joke in the history of North American sports. I guess they get away with it, because few American NBA fans are watching games like that, but if they were..........the NBA would be very exposed.

After the game, Brazil's coach basically right out implied that Giannis is a worse player than Greece's EuroLeague players. The NBA has taken this "manufacturing stars" thing way too far. It was like it was a joke for Brazil's coach.

The league has given assistance in manufacturing stars, heavily the past four years. I’ve said this. Others with a critical eye have said this.

Giannis has little skill, terrible footwork, and travels all over the goddamn court. And it’s allowed in the NBA for entertainment purposes.

FIBA actually has a rule sat closer to real basketball. And physical basketball like it was before 2015 ... hell before 2006.

You may very well be right but one summer game dosnt prove anything. Greek could score 40 the next time they play and your narrative wouldn't make any sense. I just think we should pump the brakes judging Greek based on one mediocre summer game.

Greek is 7 foot 240. What makes you think he's on steroids? I swear most of the people on this forum are out of shape white dudes who have shit genetics and work ethic. Greeks physique is totally attainable naturally. I know nuckas more jacked and shredded than Greek and they barely even lift weights and have shit diets. Greek is an elite athlete with the top trainers and dietitians in the world. You either a hater or an idiot if you think he's juicing

MrFonzworth

Nah, Giannis wasn't the same after Anderson got that 1v1 with him in the 3rd. It was the winning condition. Anderson knew it, Giannis knew it, and everyone watching knew that Brazil was winning after that play. Giannis checked out, he went out to lunch and never came back after Anderson did him dirty like that. Won't be surprised if he tries to press charges.

How typical of a Giannis stan to blame everyone else. But Calathes! But coach! But Brogdon wasnt hitting his shots!

How about you stop making excuses, blatantly obvious Giannis is a one dimensional player that doesnt make his team better. This isn't the regular season, you're fighting for your country, and Giannis shit the bed as expected.
