We all understandably laugh when someone gets done dirty on a nice move but....you get it. Its like being dunked on...its a product of effort. If you stand there flat footed and dont try to pursue or overcompensate you dont get sent 25 feet when they stop on a dime or go to plant and find your foot is perpendicular to the ground....or have so much of your weight on the wrong foot the gentle brush sends you on a stroll down the street....

But you have to. Guys like Wade and AI got to the basket so easily you feel like a failure. You wanna keep em in front....and you get embarrassed with their change of direction. Both of those guys were more quickness and positioning on their ankle breakers than straight handles....but got damn...

Id tear something. When you pride yourself on D(because you have no real offensive skill) you just go harder for every stop and thats what those guys prey on.

Id be sent on a jog:

inside 30 seconds guarding Iverson in the NBA...

You see MJ coming or Iverson, Wade, pre injury Rose...those guys? Those guys with crazy torque on their moves and changes of direction?

You would have to have some pride and step out there but inside?

Id be wishing for a zone. I can justify not going all out and getting my ACL ruined if im up top on the zone. That ***** is Alonzo Mournings problem. He wants to lead the league in blocks anyway. Id feed those guards to him all day without the illegal D rule.

My pride would want to go man to man....but my patella would beg for a zone.

Jordan would be gently nudging me out of the frame as I overcompensated on his move like Byron Russell. Id be begging for the foul 20 years later too....

But you gotta give it all you have. You have to. But you are gonna be on that floor by games end. And the lowest feeling for someone who thinks they can play D is sitting on the floor as your man casually scores behind you.

It happens to everyone. And we werent guarding a 22 year old Allen Iverson.

I have all the respect in the world for those guys who didnt back down. You could have stood there like a pylon and let him go as you swipe at the ball Sam Cassell style and not been embarrassed. But they didnt. They played D with their feet not their hands like we all got yelled at for in grade school. They tried to get in front of him and paid the price like men.

Gotta respect the effort.

as the gifs illustrate, wade and iverson were big time palmers... put hand under the ball faking a shot only to throw it back down.

that was their bread and butter to get by guys.

lol, AI LITERALLY carries over in every single one of those gifs, and they actually included one that was so blatant it made me bust up laughing that no ref called it. Wade's are completely legit, though. He never had to resort to cheating the game like AI did.

I appreciate the good intentions behind this thread but Jesus just look at the 2nd gif. That's an And1 Mixtape Vol 1 tier carry.

These days they let basic carries go over, but the ones AI were doing were so blatant and laughable it was a joke. The ball literally is stopping in his palm. Trying to say he's anything comparable to Wade off the dribble is a joke considering Wade never resorted to blatant carry overs. He was just so explosive with his dribble guys couldn't keep up. I'm sorry, but Iverson's ball handling is so overrated considering how much they let him get away with. I've thought this from his MVP season when I first started noticing him. It's a joke. You never hear anyone go on about carries when it comes to Wade, though. His is just pure ball handling and explosion. I have to admit, that I've never really noticed Harden really carries over that much either. He's not explosive, but a crafty ball handler, but he really doesn't resort to a carry over. Iverson has always been overrated with his handle because of how much he got away with. It's a joke.

Harden's crossover is literally the definition of explosive.

Tim Hardaway also had a killer crossover. But yes, if I were a defender, I wouldn't play them that intensely. There is no way to keep your balance. You risk being embarassed.

Especially with people like Wade or Iverson. I'd rather have them take a jump shot than slash. In my opinion, sag off either way. You dont have to commit when they appear to drive because of the buffer space between you, so you dont risk being crossed over. They'd be getting free shots but I'd live with that.

Tim Hardaway actually had a legit crossover unlike Iverson. The Killer crossover was nasty as hell.

No he doesnt. Some of them all you see is one move that he rises into a shot off of which would make it legal. He LITERALLY carries in some of them.

The closest anyone off the top of my head comes to LITERALLY doing it all the time is Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant carries the ball just standing there with it waiting for people to get in position to run a play. He carries posting up. He carries driving. He carries on every change of direction. This is KD almost every time he has the ball:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ImperfectForsakenCrownofthornsstarfish-size_restricted.gif

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ImmediateGrossAfricanmolesnake-size_restricted.gif

And unlike Iverson who they made an effort to police as if he were the only offender refs today make no effort to spot violators and make them change their games. To the contrary....Durant carries more now than he did as a young player. Iverson carried less as he aged because refs actually set out to stop him. Refs ignore that almost every Kyrie spin is a carry, KD and Giannis cant change direction on the move legally, and that Lebrons top 50 career dunks include 35 travels.

Iverson was forced to change his game while Kobe, Marbury, and Stackhouse took his move and carried and shuffled their feet on big exaggerated crossovers in the same league unscathed.

The guys from back then gradually reduced it.....AI did. Kobe mostly stopped after the Frobe days. Marbury would sometimes carry leading into his football style tuck on drives but he didnt do it all the time.

The league called people out and made them adjust.

Nobody is making todays guys adjust.

Refs watch this shit:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/KlutzyCoarseChameleon-size_restricted.gif

And go on twitter and explain how its legal:

NBA officials union real twitter account:

The offensive player gathers with his right foot on the ground. He then takes two legal steps, before losing control of the ball. After regaining possession, a player is allowed to regain his pivot foot and pass or shoot prior to that foot returning to the ground. This is legal.

In a league where refs not only wont stop you but will flat out release statements saying travels are legal you couldnt guard Allen Iverson at all.

They let Harden, Giannis, Durant, Lebron, Steph, and Westbrook do whatever they hell they want with no response. AI had the NBA holding closed door meetings and handing down edicts targeting him specifically.

Im waiting to see the NBA acknowledge that Kevin Durants handle wouldnt be accepted from an 8 year old in 1990. But they wont.

AI was if anything the most policed ball handler ever. All the other illegal moves in history we just pretended werent there. Ewing got to travel across the lane into a running hook or dunk probably 4500 times with nobody caring. Every Webber spin move of the 90s was an arm hook. Grant Hill and Jason Kidd carried back and forth changing direction on half the fast breaks they ran. Steph at times touches the ball with both hands on his up fake then keeps dribbling.

Refs see it. Theres not a ref alive who doesnt see this is a double dribble:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ShockedAfraidInexpectatumpleco-size_restricted.gif

They have to be told to ignore it for the flow of the game.

They have to be. They arent blind. They are just ignoring it. In the 90s they were told to stop Iverson.

Hed be right at home with these guys today.....only he wouldnt get 100 carries called in a year. Hed get 2-3 when up 25 late vs the Rockets or maybe in the second quarter vs the Hornets like they do Durant to pretend they are watching....as they ignore the same move 30 more times that game.

The NBA came out with a "Zero step" rule trying to limit travel calls even more after people were complaining about them for 20 years. The fix wasnt to make players stop...it was to call it differently so they could get the extra step to be spectacular without having to worry.

Its just a show.

AI caught the last bit of the league even trying to pretend it wanted its stars to play legally.

You are full of shit. In one of those gifs you posted he LITERALLY cups the ball underhand for half a second before he continues his dribble. It was laughable.

Kblaze8855
09-04-2019, 05:48 AM
Yes. In some he carried the ball as I said. And in some he didnt. You see several of them he just pulls back into a jumper. The one on Parker for example. Or Stephen Jackson. Or...several others. I dont know what exaggeration does for you on this but its clear he didnt carry in all of them. He carried in some. Which nobody would deny.
