My mom said she taught us not to be scared of animals and bugs early on which explains why we'd always try and capture every creature we came across. When we were kids and started bringing home rattlesnakes, tarantulas and scorpions my dad scolded her, "Look at what you started woman. These kids are going to get killed". We even used to capture tarantulas side by side with my grandma when we went over there, I couldn't have been older than 6 when I first remember doing it. She drew the line at black widows though, those did scare grandma. I remember my brother telling her, "Look GG!(grandma)" then smashing a black widow with his palm on the wall. She reacted by slapping him across the face.
