Lack of stars? I don't think so. The 3 point chucking in the NBA, small line up and soft rules was exposed during international play. The NBA has become soft for over the years but this must be its all time low. Raw rookies entering every year's draft. AAU soft ***** ball, The system is broken.

Bring back the old rules, grit and grind, and let the players play and develop their fundamentals in college before entering as a raw rookie. The current NBA is seriously lacking maturity, toughness and fundamentals.

This is alarming. It has supposed to be the best talent in the world but it got spanked left and right in the international stage by supposed to be inferior talent.

this team USA didn't even have a top 30 US player on it

Pop thought he could outshine coach K with his D-team selections and it flopped

I don't think college is necessarily the answer. They are close to having a real minir league system. Kids should be able to go pro they should just be in the Gleague until they are ready.

Not really alarming that replacements got beat though

Coach K lost in 2006 with a better team because he didn't make any changes against Greece's pick and roll and ran no plays on offense

No plays on offense has been the standard for the USAB. They have always relied on individualities. The difference this year is that instead of having Kobe, Durant or Wade making the plays happen they had Brown, Kemba, Middleton and another non all time great talents.

Oh look at that no Kobe Bryant and team USA is irrelevant once again.

Strange coincidence, no?

exactly. next year they will have the A team. it's hardly alarming what happened

The problem is that there won't be all-time great talent available next year.

Our best will be heavy favorites. That is still no guarantee. Our all-time greats have been challenged as well

All in all this was great for basketball, seeing team USA lose

It will generate a lot more international pooling

Imagine if the NFL had this type of international compatition in that sport? All Samoan team? All New Zealand?

We didn't even send one top 20 player, moron. Basketball is more popular around the world, so of course when we send our D team they lose. Learn basketball, fakkot.

What if the USA sent:

Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Chris Paul, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins etc?

Overwhelming landslide

Problem is most of these players already did 2 terms in FIBA comp, that's 6 summers.

And when you're stretching into May-Jun playoffs continually + 82gm seasons? fck that :oldlol:

What's the payout? The olympic orgy with Brazil volleyball teams? 1 goldy is enough

and the teams that shit on team usa would be? :oldlol:

gasol
fernandez
rubio
claver

that lineup just won gold... would they be a top 5 team in the nba?

stop making excuses.

USA beat Spain in an exhibition. Unfortunately they drew Gobert and company

Exactly.

USA had the talent, but couldn't win because of piss poor strategy and lack of real basketball fundamentals and teamwork.

On paper, they were the most talented team.

Supposedly.

Unless of course, the NBA is manufacturing talent.

What if the USA sent:

Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Chris Paul, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins etc?

Westbrook would be far less effective.

Curry would be great I think.

Chris Paul, who knows, he is old.

Harden, same as Westbrook.

Kawhi, great.

Durant, injured.

Lebron, old, can't shoot.

Davis, great.

Cousins, was trash last he tried, couldn't stay on the floor.

Honestly man, I think you overestimate these "stars". Kawhi, Curry, Davis, those are guys who fit FIBA. The rest would struggle.

scuzzy

It's only going to get harder to recruit Top US talent too

The incentives are simply too low, couple thousand to risk injury is not worth it when aces are looking at 1/4 billion dollar super max's

1 USA term early in career will start to be the only enticing option the way cap has risen

Paul George was lucky he bounced back the way he did

The real issue is that there are no FIBA adaptable young stars on the timeline.

All those guys, Paul, Harden, Westbrook, Curry, Lebron, Durant are older guys now. Gone in a few years.

Who is next?

AD, yes.

Then who as superstars under 25?

Zion?

IDK, this team was poorly constructed and Pops rotations were questionable at best.

The pieces just didn't fit and had no reliable players in crunch time. Not like other US teams had, that really squeezed the neck on defense and locked teams up

How many of those guys even had crucial NBA playoff experience? None that mattered

euros have always played with a higher brand of teamwork. (smarter)

Given similar talent or even a slight deficit they will almost certainly win.

Thats why teams like the spurs are always successful no matter their personel they play like em.

Thats why a shrimp like steph curry was able to make a go-rilla built LBJ his biatch.

You guys are crazy. Before this tournament the USA had won 5 straight tournaments. The last 2 finals had been 30 point blowouts. No country in any sport had been that dominant.

So we send in the B team and finally lost a tournament. At least now it's more interested.

But again 5 tournaments in a row.
