Same. I figured Klay would be gone a while and it was confirmed that he is missing 50 games+ now. This team is a disaster defensivley, Green can't do it all by himself. Could be wrong but I don't think Cauley-Stein is some defensive juggernaut either.

Kings or Mavs could easily get a big lead over GS in the standings for that last spot.

Hey everyone! Hope y'all had a good "offseason" from the NBA.

My immediate observations on this game:

* Regardless of all the new personnel, my observations of GSW are pretty much the same as last year. There is not enough "team ball" and ball movement. GSW was built on the idea that those w/out the ball don't "just watch". They move. They set screens. They clear out. If you don't do that stuff, you become mostly just the sum of your parts. And that's where the Warriors are. And their parts aren't as good as a lot of other teams this year.

* New players like DeAngelo, #32, #7 - not setting screens, not creating for others. 32, and 7 refuse to set a screen. Both seem like spoiled millennials- who love to "slip" instead of screen. If you slip, you usually get the ball, since 2 defenders collapse on the ball-handler. That's losing basketball even though it creates more shot opportunities for the "slippers" and more occasional highlight reel baskets (see: Durant from the last 2 years on GSW).

There's stuff to point out in terms of GSW lacking interior size, needing time to assimilate all the new parts, etc. - but I continue to believe if they don't incorporate screens for their best shooters, they will never win. GSW suffered immensely from lacking this very basic tactic in the playoffs last year. It's absence reflects the inadequacy of Kerr's coaching and a selfish culture that's taken hold on the Warriors.

Just my take thus far. A lot of this is not "working out the kinks" in the pre-season. It's cultural and won't be fixed by just playing more games.

I'll try not to draw too many hot takes from preseason (as many are wont to do watching the first live action in several months), but this Lakers team will be intriguing to watch regardless of how the season pans out. Davis, one of the most lethal off-ball players in the game, is a perfect-looking complement for LeBron, and the bigman has a golden opportunity to shatter the "empty stats" narrative for good.

Every time I want to stay on an NBA hiatus, something hooks me back.

Supposedly his basketball IQ is ridiculously high, he's good with young players BTS and that tends to impress front offices, I guess?

And it's not a matter of "if" Rondo is so bad. There is no "if". Rondo IS bad by all metrics out there. Every team he has played on since 2013 has been better with him off the court. LA's on/off numbers with Rondo last season were night and day. And it's not just the numbers. Rondo visibly sucks too. Anybody can see that he can't guard a chair. He can't shoot. Rondo shouldn't start because him and every other player don't play well together. Rondo is beyond washed.
Vogel is saying his lineups still aren't established so he's going to keep trying different ones. I feel like rondo ends up starting despite the writing on the wall saying it's dumb. Maybe because he has Ad's respect? Lebron's? I think he's a smart guy on the floor that sometimes out smarts himself. And how does he miss so many transition opportunities??

Howard looks a lot more agile and fast with his new slimmed down physique. It is going to be good both for his body and game.

You think??

I thought he looked stiff as a hell and sorta uninterested.

Dwight looked like hes trying to figure out how to play with a dominant big in Davis

Davis is going to pnr more and dwight literally needs to just clean the boards

Rondo should start because he's the only player on the team who has both chemistry with LeBron and David. Rondo proved himself as a starter on the playoffs when he led the Pelicans with AD to the second round.

Plus Rondo has the highest IQ on the team next to LeBron. It's a no brainier really.

Also Dwight looks much better than McGee right now. The better player should start.

If Dwight is just there to grab boards, catch lobs and play defense...

Assuming that Mcgee starts? Dwight is 6MOTY material.

KCP does not suck, idk why y’all Lakers fans hate him, I think he’s a very nice role player. I’d take him on the Heat for sure.

He puts up okay numbers but he's very streaky as a shooter. He'll either go 5/8 from three for like 20 points or 0/5 for 2-5 points. He was absolute trash the first half of last season but got his averages back up there with a bunch of 20-30 pt games at the end of the season when we had already mailed it in.

Kcp just can’t ever find a consistent role on this team. Minutes fluctuate, sometimes starts. We’ve had a chaotic roster the past several seasons so it’s not his fault. But he his better than his stint on the lakers indicates. He gets paid pretty decently so it’s not like he can demand a trade.

I just saw a 10 minutes video with highlights of the game, but watching him move, he looked more agile to me than in previous seasons.

Just a nice little preview of what we're going to do to the Clippers' frontcourt.

That's the story of his game though. The dude never hits big buckets. The only times his shots are going in are when it's a 20 point game one way or the other.

Even if his role has been reduced to clean up duties, Dwight looked lost out there trying to maintain space from AD who’s all over the floor. Didn’t get a lot of good positioning as a result and didn’t look spry enough for rim protection. Thank god he’s on a non guaranteed contract. Still rather have him than melo though.

Are you thick? They're the 2 most anticipated teams, people have been talking about the match-up... its a pretty easy lead..

Totally agree that Dwight looked lost. He never knew quite where to be, especially on offense. He never got even close to offensive rebounding position a lot of times because a 3 pter would go up before he could even get there, though. Then other times he would just get back as per current NBA mandate. Credit to him for doing what it takes, but man he looks frighteningly skinny.

I think he’ll play along nicely and end up being semi-effective though. He had a nice clumsy Dwight finish through contact and got a lob. There were a couple times you could tell when he got into the paint he wanted to turn and seal for the post up then remembered things aren’t gonna be that way anymore.

For those saying Dwight looked lost, idk what to tell yall. We all are aware why he's here...he was told why he's here, he accepted it.

You're here to rebound and defend. And he did just that. Dwight had 9pts and 9 rebounds in 18mins, did his job exactly like asked. He didn't start getting his points till the 2nd half when Bron and AD already sat down and Caruso started looking for him.

He didn't look lost at all, he looked like he was trying to rebound and get the ball to Rondo/Caruso for the fast break, which he did time and time again.

Rondo fits in very very well with AD...the amount of box score watchers we have here isn't what surprises me...rather the fact that they have such open and strong opinions based off of just looking at the box score. Because if you watched the game, it makes complete sense why Rondo is a good fit with the big guys. I get it, he's not amazing with Lebron...but whose fault is that? Rondo's poor 3 pt shooting or Lebron's poor movement off the ball?

At the end of the day it's just 1 preseason game, let's see how they do with the rest of these games. Amazing start, though. AD A BEAST!! Love that LeBron gave him the keys to Staples Center.
