Damn... almost $29 million a year for 14/5/2 on 47%/40%/64% for his best season...which was two seasons ago. Last year he was worse. When Tatum's rookie contract over dude is going to get paid.

The thing that bothers me about the Cletics is they have no commitment in terms of minutes of the log jam between SF/SG. You have three players that should be starters in this league in Tatum, Hayward and Brown at those positions. All three of them can play SF/SG, none of them in-my-opinion are big enough to play PF extensively, and if they do theirrebounding is going to suck. None of them should be coming off the bench.

I have a feeling the Celts are going to be a mess this season. You are going to have Tatum and Brown out there trying to prove too much. Tatum has already said a goal this season is to average 20ppg. That's not something you want to hear. What you want to hear is that he wants to do whatever he can to win. A player saying a goal is to average a certain ppg is not a good sign. Then Brown will want to prove he is worth this contract extension. As I said before, Hayward could be back to his 2017 level, but it won't matter because he's too unselfish. He'll just take a backseat to Tatum and Brown whether he is better than them or not as he just isn't the type of guy to force the issue. He's always looking for the best play for the team and not himself. This won't be true for either Tatum or Brown.

There will be problems but the CS aren't winning it all this year anyway, play them a lot. See who's the best and keep trade values high.

Damn. Good for him.

Doesn’t he represent himself too? No agent correct?

He hired an agent for these negotiations. Previously he had nothing to negotiate (rookie scale is set), so there’s no reason to think he’s some mastermind, although I’m sure that’s what he wants you to think.

This contract is unbelievable. I can’t believe he got more than $20 mil per year. I guess I was way off in my estimation of GMs. I always figured the rule was if you are lucky enough to get offered an early extension, you get offered what you are worth based on current production and nothing based off potential. Then you can decide to take the security or bet on yourself. Geez.

Dude just took advantage of an impatient previous owner of the Nets and did IT dirty.

People thought he was playing chess when he didn't all-in and trade for DMC, PG13, Butler, or Kawhi.. Woj and company swore up and down that Boston were going to get AD and pair him with Kyrie..

Now look at him. No Kyrie. Just got a budget, less efficient version in Walker. No AD. Just got Enes Kanter... Celtics now are relying on Tatum and Brown making a leap when they did nothing but underperform.. Now one of them is being rewarded for it.

Celtics missed their championship window and the fans can all thank good ol' penny pinching Ainge for it.

Past the nonsense, I can be happy for Jaylen, he seems like a good guy. And now he is also a very rich guy. Please do your best out there!

Right, and if he does that then no amount of money would ever be enough. Regardless if it is 100m or a higher amount, he'd blow through it.

Which is exactly why they should have waited to resign him until after this season. Yes, he becomes a free agent but he would be restricted, Boston could match all offers. If this is his max basically, then what is there to lose?

Real Men Wear Green

Well yea, in that case who cares...I'm talking more about this deal cap locking your favorite team. Like others have mentioned, Tatum is due an extension as well and you already have 3 big contracts plus Marcus Smart's 14m.Which is why I said it's bad if it could keep them from signing someone major like Giannis. But that is highly unlikely due both to the cap space that would be required and just how hard it is and how lucky you have to be to get them to come. If that's the goal what you really have to do these days is clear everyone out and wait for 2 or three guys to collude. And I wouldn't enjoy the tanking process one bit. So instead we'll be seeing a talented young team continue to make the playoffs. Not a bad position to be in.

People are going into shock over JB's dollars reminds me of how I initially reacted to the money Smart is making. This is a different market. 115 mil is huge money but understand that there are going to be multiple players with contracts over 200mil. Brown is only the third biggest contract on the celtics and will be 4th one Tatum gets paid. And that's where the league is headed. Great time to be in the NBA.

Any young guy with all star potential could be a steal if he doesn’t get the max. The reverse is you get someone like hield but his contract is still manageable. Celtics took the “risk” and looks like it’ll be worth it. If the young guys don’t pan out just rebuild after the contract ends
