Most most recent height according to the NBA is 6-6 and his last weigh in was 284lbs

According to those figures his BMI is 32.8, which is clinically obese. 18-25 is considered normal. According to this study he is at at least 3 times greater risk of Meniscus injury due to being so overweight:

Hopefully nothing will happen to his meniscus. He's still healthy right?

"Clinically." That just measures body mass index (weight divided by height), not body composition (fat). Technically Lebron James is close to being clinically obese, and he is obviously not fat. Williamson is nowhere near true obesity. But he may be too heavy for his knees to support the force of his landings, the power of his explosions and just quick movements in general. I do agree that he should lose some weight to reducw stress on the joints, we've seen several great athletes get hurt due to their own explosiveness that aren't nearly as big as he is.

I know it mostly isn't fat, or isn't an unreasonable amount of fat at least

But weight crushing down on joints is weight crushing down on joints - the MCL data should be a real concern moving forward, dunno how he can lose weight if a lot of it isn't fat but he should try

Im so nba'd out

zion on the left, while lebron being bow-legged on the right.LeBron will literally never have knee problems because of the way he is built( dont forget that kickstand aka 3rd leg he also has for balance)

Most people who lift weights frequently are going to be above their suggested BMI, but 32.8 is pretty high though - I'm worried, but trying to capitalize on it, Ja Morant might be a good bet for ROY at current odds.

BMI is a horrible number to determine if someone is overweight or not or obese or not because it doesn't factor in muscle mass at all.

physics is a bitch. how the heck is this dude going to survive multiple 80 game schedules and then playoffs and then playing against dudes bigger than him?

He looked great in the preseason but he was noticeably limping.

If he can stay healthy it would be great but thats gonna be a tough deal

You think that fotball players get injured less than basketball players? If he was a lineman he'd be 40-60 pounds heavier and have dudes falling down around his knees all game long.

Also he wouldn't be as famous or wealthy. No lineman in NFL history is as famous as he is right now.

Makes you realize what an absolute genetic freak Shaq was. Shaq never had on major injury in his career. His knees never got ****ed up even at his fat ass playing weight.

hes got the height of a left tackle... the problem isnt people hitting his legs, its they aint meant for constant jumping and falling. Especially with all that top heavy weight.

I believe new Orleans holds him out. They will look to solve any potential issues alla blake and ben simmons...

His body build comparison with 15 less pounds would be a ron attest. If he could get down to 255....it will help him.

He weighs 284. Huge by NBA standards but that weight would make him easily the smallest lineman in the league, Just looked it up, and average lineman weight is 314. So I overstimated it, and he would "just" have to gain 30 pounds. And be playing football. No, he would not be any healthier, and he also wouldn't be getting megamillions from Jordan Brand. Furthermore, the biggest contract an offensive lineman has ever gotten is 4 years, 66 mil, of which 36 mil is guaranteed. Pascal Siakam just signed for almost double that and it's all guaranteed. The supermax will be 4 times that by the time Williamson is eligible.

"Damn, it’s the lateral meniscus; considered far more serious than a medial meniscus debridement bc it can lead to serious changes at the knee moving forward. For example, arthritis rates under 5 years after lateral meniscus debridement >>>>> medial meniscus debridement"

my dude, zion could easily put on 30 lbs and be alright to be a LINEMAN. Do you watch football? These guys barely run. They backpedal and push, or move like 5 feet forward and push. They never jump or leave their feet. While Basketball players have to do suicide sprints 90 feet up and down over and over, bouncing up and down all over the place.. obviously he wouldnt have the clout or money as one of them as he would in basketball but hed actually be useful lmao

If you watch football then you'd see all of the linemen in knee braces. If you watch football then you would know that everyone gets hit harder than basketball players. If he is an offensive lineman he has to wrestle some 320 lbs guy for 60 snaps, many of which he's going to fall and/or have huge men fall on him. And another thing: Williamson's most important and impressive athletic ability is his leaping ability, which would be completely useless for an o lineman. If he played football he might be a pass rusher or TE, some position where being explosive is important. And it would still be the wrong position compared to what he'll do on the court.
