He normally backs people down way in the paint and take a short turnaround Midrange shot or he easily get to a spot for short midrange shot. If you notice he doesn't take Alot of loonnng ass Twos he just goes close Ft kine and down a shoot. He doesn't do anything fancy. Kobe did this alot later in his career but not that consistently because he like long twos and being fancy/bad shots. Mj did this all through 96-ol98. Its simple thing.

CJ McCollum shoots the mid range a lot. He isn't the only one. It's a valuable shot still. Advanced metrics guys hate the shot simply because you can shoot a worse percentage from 3 and still win.

The NBA has turned into a league where the three pointer is the most important shot.

Because Daryl Morey(not Steph curry) changed the game with his analytics of why 2 point jump shots are worthless and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. The warriors winning with this style further validated it in most experts eyes. I think it was fools gold though. Warriors didn't win because of the three ball. They won because they had the most talented team. Kawhi has proven that the mid range is still very valuable. Especially in tight playoff games when off ball movement isnt working and you have to iso.
