professional statistical analysis

look how much better MJ's peak was.. water is wet

and the data shows how much pippen's rings inflate his ranking

Great formula that has Stockton and Chris Paul as the 3rd and 4th best players of the last 40 years.

LOL I saw the same thing, what a broken algorithm. Tim Duncan has as many rings as Paul has series wins.

In before Kblaze rant.

Havent looked at the stats used (never heard of RAPTOR) but I am assuming defense and rebounding are underweight. Bigs can have a much greater impact on defense than guards or swingmen.

Here it is:

Read the list.

I love John Stockton but.....his 92>Birds 86? And Draymond 2016>Duncan

The all-time rankings are ridiculous and bad, but I see no reason why the MJ vs. Lebron peak comparison isn't spot-on - that's a direct comparison of 2 guys, and therefore more accurate than a ranking of all the players.

and the top individual seasons look fine, other than 92' Stockton over 86' Bird.

Pippen had a greater peak than Shaq

The article I linked above goes into more detail:

...maybe the JAWS approach is still giving a little too much credit to Stockton’s extremely long career (19 seasons and 47,764 minutes). But there’s also reason to believe that traditional analyses don’t give Stockton anywhere near as much credit as he deserves. First, he was ridiculously durable, playing in 1,504 out of a possible 1,526 games in his career (98.6 percent). He also excelled at many of the aspects of NBA offense that RAPTOR adores, including passing (he’s the all-time leader in assist rate), shooting efficiency (his career true shooting percentage ranks 14th) and floor-spacing. To the latter point, Stockton devoted more than 20 percent of his field-goal attempts to 3-pointers in the 1990s, a rate that (while low) wouldn’t be totally out of place for a point guard in 2019.

How the RAPTOR Metric Works

[I]RAPTOR, which stands for Robust Algorithm (using) Player Tracking (and) On/Off Ratings, is FiveThirtyEight

What did the people who created this list hope to achieve by posting it? Did they think people would read through it, see Stockton & CP3 ranked in the top 4 and still give it serious consideration? Shit is retarded :oldlol:

It is retarded, and I wish they would've omitted the preposterous all-time rankings, just shown the MJ/Lebron peak vs peak comparison, which looks legit - and the best individual seasons, which look legit except a couple things

Regarding the rankings, I honestly think they saw that MJ and Lebron were #1 and #2, so they figured that was enough credibility to show the entire list
