View Full Version : Was LeBron's 6900 playoff points fair for others or is the bar way too high?

The next closest guy in NBA history is MJ with only 5900 points meaning 1000 less points. Not Shaq or Kobe or Wilt or Kareem or Bird or Magic was even close. Mike is a distant second place (what's new, right?). LBJ and MJ both made 13 playoffs so don't get cute about games played--sorry Mike failed in the 1st round three years and only made 6 finals. Was LeBron's 6900 playoff points setting the bar too high?

Imagine being 1000 points above a known 'scorer' and you're still in the league to accumulate more and make an unbreakable record even more unbreakable.
Doesnt the only active guy Kawhi have like 2000 which is way off Lebron.

Everyone knows that PPG is the real record, and MJ stands alone:

PPG

Playoffs

1) Jordan...... 33.5

2) Iverson..... 29.7
3) West......... 29.1
4) Lebron...... 28.9
5) Durant...... 28.8
6) Barry......... 27.3
7) Elgin......... 27.0
8) Gervin...... 26.5
9 Curry......... 26.0
10) Hakem... 25.9

While being far more clutch:

CLUTCH - Playoff shots in last 5 minutes, within 5 points, since 2001

134-323 for Lebron.. 41.4%
108 games.. 3.0 attempts per game

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/shot_finder.cgi?request=1&match=play&game_num_min=0&game_num_max=99&is_playoffs=Y&q4=Y&q5=Y&time_remain_minutes=5&time_remain_seconds=0&time_remain_comp=le&margin_min=-5&margin_max=5&player_id=jamesle01&order_by=date_game

Jordan 1997 Playoffs (https://stats.nba.com/players/clutch-traditional/?sort=PTS&dir=-1&Season=1996-97&SeasonType=Playoffs&PerMode=Totals):. 20-39.. 51.3% (11 games)
Jordan 1998 Playoffs (https://stats.nba.com/players/clutch-traditional/?sort=PTS&dir=-1&Season=1997-98&SeasonType=Playoffs&PerMode=Totals):. 22-50.. 44.0% (14 games)

42-89 for MJ.. 47.2%
25 games.. 3.6 attempts per game

TLDR: MJ averaged 5 more ppg, while taking far more clutch shots on much better efficiency - MJ blows Lebron away as a scorer, and old MJ blows lebron away down the stretch of tight games (clutch)

we dont even care about MVPs or superteam rings, how much more for playoff points. No wonder lebron is top 3 for you guys. The bar is set too low.

We are not doing another 300 posts of idiots pretending not to know why all the playoff totals records favor modern players who have more rounds, no byes, and no 3 or 5 game series. You want to play dumb do it in one of the many existing topics that stupid argument played out in.
