Imma call you out and say you're dumb.
3 > 2 is often said by analytics nerds, actually not the nerds, but the arrogant twats on RealGM as some sort of mantra.
The problem is... 3 > 2 doesn't nearly cover the question of: "Should we shoot more 3s".
Here are other things to consider:
1. FTr
We know you get less free throws shooting 3s than shooting 2s.
2. Offensive rebound rate
How many less/more offensive rebounds does a 3 point attempt yield
3. Fastbreak points against
How many more fastbreaks are generated from the longer rebounds (to guards)
4. Efficiency in late game clock situations
The 3 point shot is less effective than the midrange in late game shot clock. Have you factored in more late game shots in the playoffs/finals vs regular season?
5. Higher variance
Leads to more upsets, but are you a team looking to be the upsetter or do you fear getting upset?
