Take a look at LeBron, die hard fans are so obessed about his advanced stats, like what a freakin nerd, who gives a shit about those. A simple pts, ast, reb, etc is as good as it gets. Only losers who can't play basketball invented that to be relevant to the sport they love but doesn't love em back.
With all those advances stats, did it translate to winning? All I can see is 3/9, 33.33333% is as advanced it can get.

It goes like this.
We, as humans, have beliefs. Feelings. Emotions. We make up our minds based on these. And then... we are trying to rationalize. We've been taught to rationalize all our lives. Since early childhood. To reason.
So.. we make up numbers. Just any kind and combination of numbers. We like to call them 'facts'. (As if our feelings were not facts... actually they are. We love out mothers and it's a fact. No numbers needed.)
So. If we already have our numbers and we still cannot reason well enough as to why we like something (and why others should, too...) what do we do? Well... we come up with a new set of numbers. Advanced numbers, if you will.
So there is your answer.

Well yeah. It did translate to winning. When he was leading the league in PER, his teams were perennial contenders and he was racking mvps and finals mvps because everyone could see that he was the best player on the planet (something that was backed by the advanced stats).
Now that he isn't close to the best anymore, the advanced stats back that. You'll see him 8th or 9th in the league now.

I think getting title happy is also dumb as that's a team accolade but I do think the eye test from those who understand the game is infinitely more interesting than advanced stats nerds who seem to only see the game happen on paper... guys who can create their own shots, guys who move off the ball, guys who can handle the ball, can't handle the ball etc - PNR players, iso specialists, post ups, etc... if you can break down how a player actually plays you know a heck of a lot more about the game then the geeks who say "check his VORP tho" - eeek
I've legit seen people ask why a backdoor specialist shooting 60+% doesn't "shoot all the shots" since they are so accurate... like bro, backdoor guys get those spoonfed backdoor plays because other players work so damn hard creating their own shots... they are more valuable at their 45% than any backdoor 60%er and in fact the backdoor 60%er can often thank them for even being given the ball when the defense zeroed in on the 45% attacker that was creating his own shot. Give him the ball full time and he's likely a turnover machine that couldn't throw the ball in the ocean.

News flash: Scoring efficiency is the primary factor in determining who wins the game.
If Team A has a better TS% than Team B the only way Team B can win the game is to have more possessions (more rebounds, fewer turnovers and fouls).

Analytics can be useful. Ditto with raw stats. Use them both along with the eye test...and you'll be alright.
Stats > winning
