Bron's had so many great teammates and well-rounded rosters that it's not even close, Kobe's peak was wasted with the worst supporting casts in the NBA. Not only did Bron have two top 10 players in the league at his peak but now he has a top 5 player and another loaded roster to end his career.

LeBron played with more talent but Kobe played with the best talent. Prime Shaq blows everyone out of the water. Next best is Wade on the LeBron side... but Gasol was nearly as useful for Kobe. While being not as good as Wade, Gasol was a perfect fit.

So I'd say it's pretty close as far as best talent goes. Both these players had nice talent around them for their rings. LeBron probably had more time playing with great talent though.

One interesting difference is this: LeBron made average and (by NBA standards) bad players around him a lot better and made already great players a bit worse. Kobe made great players even better and bad players even worse... I'd say he also elevated average but willing players (Walton, Fisher, etc.).

Kobe and it's not even close. His teams played almost the same when he was injured, their winning percentage went from 65% to 60% when he was not playing. If you replace Kobe with literally anyone, let's say Adam Morrison for example, they still win 5 championships. Replace him with a borderline All Star player like Monta Ellis, they win at least 8.

Lebron is the better player but he has most definitely had more talent on his teams. Lebron is somewhere between #5 - 10 all time and Kobe is top 20 but Lebron has won with stacked teams for the most part. Kobe had Shaq in his prime carry him when he was young but he did win titles with teams with far less talent than Bron later in his career.

Kobe won 3 chips as a second fiddle to Shaq evident by the 3x FMVPs (the most dominant player of modern era after MJ). And Kobe won of off his 5 rings under Phil Jackson. Talent of players on the court matters, but also the coaching and system under (ask Duncan). End of thread.

Kobe and Shaq were 1a/1b depending on match-ups, you can call Kobe 2nd fiddle in 2000 but even then he was their most important player when it came to winning a close series against Portland, it's not like Kobe got taken for a ride when he was their best defensive player, playmaker, and closer. Kobe was the one carrying the offense against the Spurs in 2001 and 2002, when Shaq couldn't dominate like he did against weak EC frontcourts. Phil Jackson is vastly overrated, he only had success with top 10 ATGs but look at what he did on the Knicks, he was a great manager but he wasn't as good as Popovich.

Obviously LeBron

All these years of having stacked teams and yet only 3 rings

Kobe had trash for half of his absolute prime and still wound up winning 2 years in the other half, imagine if he was team hopping from one superteam to another, probably 5 rings + the 3 he had with Shaq. Insane

LeBron, probably.

But LeBron is played far talent-heavier times.

2008-2010 NBA was a joke compared to now.

And teams had a completely different make-up.

Nowadays every team has 2-3 stars (more talent & different built to compete with uber stacked teams) and we have cheat code teams like 2017-2019 GSW and 2020- BN.

Meanwhile 2008-2010 Kobe was the only top 5 player with a legit all-star sidekick!

LeBron, Wade, Dirk, Howard, no all-star teammates.

Since top 5 players win in the NBA, Kobe pretty much had it cut out for him, and it still took choke-jobs for him to come through.

For the eras they played, I'd say they were honestly even. LeBron nor Kobe ever won without at worst, a top 3 team in the league. Although that applies to like 95% of all title winning teams :lol
