View Full Version : What Unawarded Season Did Harden Deserve MVP the Most?

Whether you love Harden or hate him (as most non-Rockets fans do), he's deservedly been a fixture in the MVP discussion for the latter half of the decade.

It's his three runner-up candidacies—2015, 2017, and 2019—I'm interested in mooting, as those might have tipped the scales of his legacy more than his only MVP so far.

Many (including the not-so-diffident Harden himself) feel that media snubs—be it due to voter fatigue, his contemptible playstyle, or his underwhelming postseason track record—are the biggest reason he hasn't already joined the pantheon of multi-time MVPs. It's not really a travesty that others—Curry, Westbrook, and Giannis—outvoted him those years considering their respectively phenomenal seasons; but the 2018 MVP-winner had a cogent case for those years, too, and many of his fans will ruminate over those the most unless (if not until) he augments that collection.

What year, if any, do you feel he deserved the award the most? Even if you don't think he was blatantly snubbed, vote for whichever season you think he had the best case.

He plays for mike asstoni, and his stats are inflated.
let him play for frank vogel, wont average 25.

He had good arguments in all 3 years, but I voted 2015

I know in hindsight Westbrook's MVP season can be diminished considering he's averaged triple doubles every season since, but he actually averaged 30 on good efficiency that year. Plus he led a Thunder team that just lost Durant to the playoffs, OKC only suffered an 8 game drop off after losing a top 3 player in the league.

I understand last years Houston team was not really the same as the 2018 one that nearly beat the Warriors, CP3's absence and decline being most indicative of that. But it'd be difficult for a player to win MVP after their team has a 12 game drop off in wins without a major loss to the roster, like the above example of Durant on OKC.

I would've still given Westbrook & Giannis MVP those years, but I would've voted for Harden in 2015. Seriously, check out the roster he had. Dwight missed half the year, Beverley missed 25 games, he led a pretty modestly talented team to 56 wins, while Curry had the core of Klay/Dray/Iggy and a really good supporting cast

He averaged 25-29 playing for McHale and Bickerstaff.

2015 and 2019. I'll let Russ have 2017.

DAntoni is known for fast pace with his Suns. With the Rockets, he is not known for fast pace, in fact, until this year, James has used every second of that shot clock.

It's always easy to find the people that don't watch the games.

None.

He only got the MVP once out a sheer pity. It was rightfully Lebron's.
