View Full Version : When was Harden supposed to win a Chip?

Anybody got the years for me where he was on the best team and that team was healthy?
And I'm not talking about OKC Harden, I'm talking about Harden as the man on the Rockets.
I keep seeing people criticize Harden for certain things that are valid, but I have also seen a lot of people dismiss him solely because he doesn't have a ring (Barkley, Karl Malone anybody?).
So ISH, please enlighten me when Harden was SUPPOSED to win a chip.

IDK, Harden's best chance to go the Finals and possibly winning the chip was when the Warriors were in danger of being eliminated down 3-2. Unfortunately, that never happened. :(

Never.
He had a legit chance in 18, but Paul going down combined with playing one of the best teams ever ended that.
I don't even like Harden...I hate the style and I do think some of the criticism is fair, but he's never had the title favorite supporting cast in his career as the man.
Honestly, the thing to hate on him the most for in terms of winning a title was probably his play in the 12 Finals. Obviously a bit unfair, but he was in his 3rd year and he did play like ass.
Harden is similar to Dirk before his title in 11 in terms of perception in my opinion. I don't think Harden is as good or impactful as Dirk was, but people hate on him way too much. He's a top 30 player of all-time and still going strong...
And if he ever wins won while playing great...he'll get the credit he deserves....and people will act like it is just one thing, but that will be wrong. The only thing missing from Harden is the title and a finals mvp...if he got those...he'd be on a very exclusive list in terms of career achievements.
Again, I'm not even a Harden guy, but to argue he isn't an all-time great at this point is just silly.

Pretty close to my sentiments as well. Dude is going to be a top 50 player of all time regardless if he ever wins a chip. Hell Harden has potential to eclipse the 30,000 career scoring mark.

he lost when he wasnt supposed to well before then
he was the heavy favorite against the Blazers and lost in the 1st round got outplayed by Dwight and Lillard
he also completely choked and got shut down and blown out against the Spurs with Kawhi going down too
In the 18 series he was abysmal even tho they pushed 7.
CP, Tucker and Ariza all outplayed him that series mainly on the strength of their defense and CP carried the offense down the stretch
2015 and 2019 are the only years he showed up consistently in the playoffs and he still had alltime bad moments in both like Iggy completely pushing his sht in 2015 and forcing him to alltime turnover and bad shooting records

Yes, like almost all other players in NBA history...he's had poor series and moments.
Since coming to the Rockets...he's averaging 28/6/7 57% TS in the playoffs.
Even if I agree that his impact hasn't been as good as those numbers, which I actually do...he's still all-time great by any reasonable definition when you look at his entire body of work.

Gee, I don't know.
Maybe when they were up 3-2 and KD went down?

I don't know about a chip but he's lost plenty of playoff series he should of won. For example Pretty much every time he faced the warriors he should of won. In 2018 Chris Paul helped him get the series to a game 7 where you know chokers like curry and kd are gonna struggle. They only lost by 9. If harden wasn't trash on both ends Houston wins that series. You replace harden with prime mj or Bron and they win. How about 2016. He got crushed by a warriors squad that didn't have there MVP. Again replace harden with mj or Bron and it's a wrap. Harden is a great player, I don't deny that but there's level to this shit and he's not on the other greats level and that's why he'll never win a chip

Didn't he have a bad game down the stretch of that 2018 WCF that would've won if he hadn't shot so horrifically?
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly
But people think KD's warriors couldn't be beaten but literally dozens of teams have overcome much bigger talent deficits
