View Full Version : Why did the NBA made the 3 points line shorter in the mid 1990's?

We all know that Jordan scored only 5 points in a 3 points shooting contest. And not a very good 3 points shooter. He actually improved his 3 points after Commissioner Stern made the 3 points line closer to the free throws.

To give the other teams a chance.

lol I didn't even know he even was in the 1990 3pt contest. But, yes, Lebron 23, the line was shortened 5 years later while he was retired so he could be a good 3pt shooter. Are all filipino's this fukking stupid?

Do you know how to read? It said in the article that we had a short 3 points line from 1994 to 1997. Jordan played for 2 seasons under these rules. And the reason why the NBA made it shorter was because of having low scoring games in the mid 1990's

The NBA wanted to increase scoring, but the change decreased scoring because it shrunk the court and the spacing - defenders didn't have to cover as much ground, so scoring declined and it became more of an international format (shorter line/less spacing, physicality, packed paints)

We know your agenda; it's that you THINK that making the 3pt line shorter benefited MJ and that's where your thinking ends (because you're a 1st grade moron). Somehow, MAGICALLY, the line didn't get shortened for anyone else.

Idiot.

They thought it would increase scoring to drive up casual viewership, like they do now because everything became such defensive affairs.

When in reality it did the inverse. It made things even more congested in the paint. Was still difficult to score because the difference in three point length wasn’t even THAT significant.

Stylistically players weren’t encouraged or given free to shoot the 3 ball like they do now. Off the dribble and early in the shot clock especially. Those used to be called bad IQ shots.
