Because of the obvious inflation in pace. The installment of freedom of movement, and lack of defense in general.
How many EXTRA points does a player like Harden average today? Along with assists and rebounds. COMPARED to post 2005 when the league removed handchecking?
I don't want to knock Harden's year. He is clearly one of the best offensive player right now. For arguments sake, we can do the same for someone like LeBron. 17th season and leads the league in assists. Would this version still be effective 15 years ago? When the league played physical defense in the regular-season.

Players are rewarded +1 extra point per 3pt shot if they shoot it beyond the modern 3pt line. Totalling 4 points
If they shoot it at the 1996 3pt line, it only counts as a standard 3 points.
Also, if they shoot it at the 1996 3pt line and airball, rule states they must hang their ***** outside their shorts until end of regulation

Are you for the NBA making a 4-point shot?

If you made a 4pt line, say, 35 ft from the basket, you're gonna have a ridiculous amount of spacing with guys either chucking it from the 4 pt line or making a beeline to the rim. There will be no basketball being played in the 25 ft of space in between :oldlol:

Its hard to say really. For someone like harden hes easily scoring an extra 6-8 pts due to the era. Hes shooting 14 foul shots right now. Half of them are absolutely garbage calls that he would never get in any other era so right off the bat thats about 6 pts which brings hom down to 33. Take another 2-5 away due to perimeter defenders not being allowed to defend and hes down to about 29 pts a game which seems about right to me
For most players though id say maybe about 2-5 pts a game due to inflation

The fact that there are literally people out there (Bran stans) that refuse to admit or probably are straight up unable to comprehend that offense is the highest it's been since the 80s and defense is literally banned and the most embarrassing it has ever been is straight up appalling.
But then people will see Bran's empty triple doubles and crown him as GOAT. The guy who is literally irrelevant without multiple superteams/HOF teammates/rigging.

Defense is banned?
Then what's this then...

They're just as many elite defenders today as they were in previous eras
The only reason we're seeing more points is because of the extra spacing due to stretch 4s/5s and players taking more 3s instead of mid ranges

Today's league opened things up, ushering a style that'll keep players effective YEARS past their prime.
What do you think James Harden and LeBron TODAY would average back in 2005-2006? League banned handchecking and most of the stars saw a boost in PPG that year. There was still defense being played though. Whether it was playing physical off the ball on screens or with freedom of movement not existing.

Detroit was playing probably the best team defense in the history of the sport, and Chicago cared a lot about defense, both physical, both in the reg season. Not as sure about the other 28 teams, in the reg.

Any example of a star player who never got undue credit for rebounds and assists would be Larry Bird. Another example for the same stats would be Michael Jordan.
