He played in a league even worse than MJ's, if you can even fathom such a thing. It's difficult for us to comprehend but it is indeed true. He was going against amoeba's every night.

Yes because a guy that won by far the most titles in league history, won it all both times in college and won it all twice in high school doesn’t have anyone that believes he’s the greatest.
A guy that psychologically understood team dynamics arguably the best out of everyone in league history including coaches.
A guy that repeatedly pushed Wilt’s shit in with no regard.
Yeah... THAT is the guy that has no sensible people who think he’s the GOAT.

Prior to the 3-point line giving coaches/players a further marker on the floor to stand and run plays (in addition to an extra point), the game was played much closer to the basket, so the space didn't exist for great team offense like we see today and in recent eras.
Not surprisingly, a 1-way defender like Bill Russell was able to dominate and win the most, given the hampers on spacing.. And players' stances closer to the basket wasn't just a natural inclination, it was infact the correct thing to do in the absence of a 3-point line - 20-footers have always been a tough shot in any era - so it was natural for pre-80's defenders to let players take that shot all day long and pack the paint/midrange instead, where skilled scorers could hurt you much more efficiently.
But once the 3-point line was instituted in 1980, offensive efficiency immediately increased from the natural spacing effects and team offense became a more viable way to win games then ever before.. Consequently, all 40 league MVP's since the line was instituted have been dominant offensive players - for this reason, we know that Bill Russell wouldn't be an MVP-caliber player with a 3-point line and therefore, MJ's 6 rings in the modern era, specifically as "the man", is by far the goat achievement and makes him the greatest basketball player of all time.

Ive never like this argument. I guess the argument is that there was less competition because there was 8 teams but each of those tesms would be pretty loaded and a threat. Fast forward to this era and theres way more teams but how many are actually a threat. Not 30 thats for sure. Maybe 5 or 6. So really its no different than when Russell played because your really only competing against a handful of teams.

for this reason, we know that Bill Russell wouldn't be an MVP-caliber player with a 3-point line and therefore, Jordan's 6 rings in the modern era, specifically as "the man", is by far the goat achievement and makes him the greatest basketball player of all time (2nd place has 3 rings as "the man")
if you disagree with this, then you're saying that Russell was good enough to be the only MVP in 40 years that wasn't a dominant offensive player, which seems pretty impossible.
And MJ's rings as "the man" are backed up by his 6 FMVP's, where 2nd place only has 3

He is top-5 to many, and top-10 to all. I think that is a reasonable spot for him.
He is top-5 because of Rings, Defense, Leadership.
He is NOT top-3 because of Offense, stacked Celtics, Wilt was the best in his era.

But doesn't that fact that 6 FMVP's were won by a player as terrible as MJ prove how meaningless of an achievement it really is?

Why did every player in league history score fewer points in the post season than LeBron, despite more or equal playoff appearances?
MJ: 13
LBJ: 13
Kareem: 18
Kobe: 16

Jordan averaged 5 more points per game than Lebron in the playoffs on better efficiency rating and efficiency per possession - there's never been a comparison where a player scored 5 more per game on better efficiency and wasn't considered the FAR better player

Because he only had to win 2 series a year to win a title. From 1985 forward you needed to win 4 series a year to win a title. Also Russell joined the league mvp and rookie of the year over him when he joined the C's.

I see your point, but you're assuming the league had as many star players then as they do now, which is just false.
Out of the 8 teams, the 3 worst teams had 1 star each and the league only had 3 teams above 500 out of 8. Look it up.
