View Full Version : A concise comparison of "carrying" ability
3ball
12-03-2019, 12:31 PM
1) Dirk won 67 with no cast (07')
2) Dirk overcame goat talent deficit (11') - no star teammates vs 3 prime stars
3) Dirk carried a lottery cast (a team that was lottery the prior year) to a low seed and 7 games with the champs (14')
Compare to Lebron:
1) Lebron won 66 in the weaker East
2) Lebron only overcame a talent deficit once in 07' ECF (a smaller deficit than Dirk's 11'), while his Big 3 matched Curry's in 16'
3) Lebron failed 3 times to carry lottery casts to playoffs (04', 05', 19')*
*Lebron couldn't drag lottery casts to low seeds/underdog matchups in 1st Round, and only made playoffs with high seeds, good teams, and easy 1st round matchups - this inflated his early playoff resume compared to other stars who were good enough to carry lottery casts to low seeds and underdog 1st Rd matchups
CONCLUSION: Dirk carries teams better than Lebron and Lebron's carrying ability is vastly overrated (only made playoffs with high seeds/good teams, and 07' was his only time overcoming talent deficit, which was a smaller deficit than Dirk's 11' Finals)

Dirk carried a lottery cast (a team that was lottery the prior year) to the playoffs and 7 games with the champs (2014)
Lebron failed 3 times to carry lottery casts to playoffs (04', 05', 19')
And think about how much better Dirk did with his 8-seed cast compared to Lebron's 4 HOF, b2b cast in 2014... :facepalm... again, carry-job - read the thread title - Dirk carried teams better
You should be embarrassed to stan LeFraud

07 mavs definitely aren’t strong but when did terry and all star Howard become no cast?? Also the mavs were very different in 14 compared to 13, you can’t call them a lottery cast based on them missing the playoffs in 13. Monta was pretty important. The only point you have is the talent deficit in 11 which everyone knows about.
Your points are extremely easy to refute but no one wants to because you never stop arguing and just deflect to another point when you don’t have a good response like bringing up mj vs lebron in the doncic thread lol
PS: the 06 cavs are a lottery cast based on your logic and I won’t bother responding to any of your deflections or topic changes

LeBron took a 67 win team to a gruelling 6 games with Matthew Dellavadova as his sidekick in 2015
LeBron won 66 games with a no star cast in 09
LeBron dragged a no star cast to the finals in 2018
Also in 07 he dragged a no star cast to the finals
2013 Wade is the worst second option ever (15.7ppg) and LeBron carried him to a ring
So that's five examples of LeBrons GOAT carrying ability

07 mavs definitely aren’t strong but when did terry and all star Howard become no cast?? they're a couple of fringe all-stars just like Mo and Zydrunas..
Then it's Devin Harris, non-starter Jerry Stackhouse, and Dampier vs Delonte, Szczerbiak and Varejao.. So no real difference - and Lebron is in the weaker conference with better 3-point shooting and coaching (Avery is no longer in the league).. So again, Dirk's 2007 matches Lebron's 2009 in degree of carry-job
Also the mavs were very different in 14 compared to 13, you can’t call them a lottery cast based on them missing the playoffs in 13. Monta was pretty important. Shawn Marion, Vince Carter, Darren Collison, OJ Mayo were all pretty important too.. Adding Monta and going from lottery to 8-seed is still a carry-job, some would argue and more difficult one - and then taking that 8 seed to 7 games with the mighty Spurs, while Lebron gets uncled with his 2-seeded, 4 HOF team is a MUCH bigger carry-job than anything Lebron ever did.. it infact proves that he gets babied about his loss - Lebron-ball is simply extremely beatable, aka 3/9
The only point you have is the talent deficit in 11 which everyone knows about (no, I have all three - see the previous bold red
CONCLUSIONS:
1) Dirk owns the record for biggest talent deficit overcome when his Mavericks beat the "not 6, not 7" super-team of prime Dwayne Wade, Lebron James and Chris Bosh.
2) Dirk and Lebron's carry-jobs in 2007 and 2009, respectively, are similar and pretty equal.. They both had 2 fringe all-star teammates and similar role players after that, except the Cavs were in the weaker conference with better coaching and 3-point shooting.
3) Adding Monta in 2014 and going from lottery to 8-seed is still a carry-job by Dirk - some would argue a more difficult one - and then taking that 8 seed to 7 games with the mighty Spurs, while Lebron gets uncled with his 2-seeded, 4 HOF champion is a MUCH bigger carry-job than anything Lebron ever did.. it infact proves that Lebron gets babied about his loss - Lebron-ball is simply extremely beatable, aka 3/9 - it loses to everyone, and badly
PS: the 06 cavs are a lottery cast based on your logic and I won’t bother responding to any of your deflections or topic changes
Right - Lebron failed to carry lottery casts to the playoffs in 2004 and 2005, and only succeeded in 2006 after the addition of a 20-point, all-defender sidekick, and a future COY - so he acquired a good team first and then made it as a high seed - he never dragged a lottery cast (his 04, 05, or 19' casts) to a low seed - he missed it with lottery casts/low seeds, and only made it with high seeds/good teams.. Making it with only high seeds means that he never faced tough 1st round matchups, and inflated his resume

Why was dirks 23ppg on bad efficiency and no defense enough in 2011?
He was carried, that's why
Plus 07 is the biggest choke ever. Why would you bring that up? :lol
