View Full Version : The Wizards give up 123ppg along with the second worst defensive rating in history.

Last years Cavs were the worst ever by a hair. The ppg would be(narrowly) the second most given up even in 1962 which was an outlier for bad defense even then when Bill Russell had personally invented defense only 7-8 years earlier and others were only gradually coming around.

Obviously there are many factors. 3s. Rule changes. The existence of Isaiah Thomas on the floor from time to time. That was a serious issue last game of theirs I watched.....

When you’re sitting and watching such nonsense and have only the 7th worst record but sit 12th in the East....

What’s your plan to fix it?

Is there a plan other than hoping someone mid lottery turns to an immediate star just as John Wall returns at peak level?

Are the Wizards the current best example of a treadmill team?

And if not...who is?

Who beats the Wizards in a brisk jog to nowhere?

John Wall's contract will be Arenas all over again and short of finding a miracle sucker trade partner there is nothing they can do about that. Either keep Beal to entertain fans while they tread water or trade him for picks and embrace the tank until Wall deal expires.

Just because his contract doesn't kill them doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. They have a substantial amount of money tied into a small player who's in the NBA because of his athletic ability and must come back from a torn Achilles. If he slacks off in the slightest with rehab he might not even be NBA-caliber on return and they are counting on him to be elite.

Sure it hurts. But it

they also play the most 'zone' defense by far of any squad in the league, almost triple the amount of the next team on the list.

[QUOTE]This season, the Wizards have placed trust in the zone, in which defenders are assigned an area to cover instead of a player. Although zone defense is rare in the NBA because the defensive three-second rule dissuades big men from camping in the paint, the Wizards have used it 12.5 percent of the time under new defensive coordinator Michael Longabardi, according to Synergy Sports.

That is by far the most in the league, with the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors at 4.5 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively. In contrast, the Los Angeles Lakers have faced zone defenses more than any team: 4.6 percent of the time.

So wait....you're telling me....the cavs from just this past year is one of the worst teams of all time????no no no no there must be some mistake.....please go back and crunch the numbers again cause that team was pretty much the same exact team that went to the Finals in 2017 minus one or two players......This doesnt make any sense. No way one man could impact the game that much

lebron james.....you gotta be kiddin me king james

Starting IT is an obvious problem. John Wall being out is another. Wall can be a good defender when he wants to be, which unfortunately isnt very often. Even at his worst he is far better than IT. When IT got hurt the defense improved immediately.

Mahinmi being out has also been a major problem. He is just starting to play again and is a very strong interior defender, which we badly need.

Another big problem is having so many young guys that make glaring mistakes on rotations.

Thank god the extended '16 "Summer of Mahinmi" is almost over, eh?? Amazing that all those '16 contracts are falling off the books this summer...seems like just yesterday.

The contract we gave him was ridiculous obviously. The GM that gave it to him finally got fired over the summer thankfully.

Setting aside the contract he is a good defender when he actually plays. I think he may have missed more games than he has played for us.

There should be a rule that would force the ownership to sell if their team sucks during the past 10 seasons.
