21 year old LeBron on a terrible squad outscored a prime scoring machine Gilbert Arenas to advance in his 1st playoff appearance and avoid a 1st round exit like all the other greats before him. Amazing stuff.

If LeBron had 8 years with PRIME Shaq like Kobe we are talking 5 rings minimum, and probably 6 or even 7.

Shaq is a career 4.5% 3pt shooter. LeGod would still find a way to make him serviceable. :pimp:

In 2002 Kobe shot 25% from 3 and only made 33 total 3s (0.4 a game). If that’s all the spacing Shaq needed I’m pretty sure LeBron could replicate that considering he’s currently hitting 2.3 3s a game at a 36.5% clip.

He wasn't a good shooter when he was young. LeBron's success hinges on teams not clogging the paint, which is what would happen if he had Shaq on his team. Also, his assists would go down because Shaq wanted to be fed in the post. Imagine Shaq being motivated by becoming a spot-up shooter :biggums:

Unlike you I watched almost all of Shaq's career and all of Kobe's. Of course you got assists if the pass led to a basket. But if the center positioned on the block, back to the basket and got an inside pass any move that didn't directly result from the pass negated an assist.

Shaq did alot of dropstreps, hopsteps, spins, face ups, fakes and counters etc.

Kobe even cried about Shaq killing his assists with his moves.

The 2010 onwards NBA started counting assists differently. Something like Westbrook did rarely happen back then. If you put the ball on the floor from a standstill/tt the passer didn't get shit. Happens alot these days. Pass 1-2 dribble pull up from a static position and it's an assist...

Another tear down post devoid of any meaningful analysis. Let me be the first to admit that LeBron > Kobe in the all-time rankings and this can't be debated. Having said that, the OP makes it seem that LeBron's first series was out of the realm of achievement for Kobe.

Lebron was 21 facing a 22nd ranked defensive team in the Wizards in 2006 that won 42 games. LeBron put up 35.7 PPG with no other teammate to really score alongside with him.

Kobe wasn't too far off, though. Yes, LeBron has the edge here because he scored such a high amount of PPG in his first series, but given the weakness of the team and their defense, that has to be considered.

At age 22, Kobe faced a 55 win Sacramento team, ranked 7th in Drtg, and put up 35.0 PPG, all while sharing a scoring load with Shaq.

So while LeBron seems to have somewhat of an edge in this comparison, there is more detail that should be considered, especially when you consider how the triangle offense works under Phil Jackson and having to share the ball with another elite scorer.

There's no edge, really. Lebron faced a really bad defensive team. It was a rarity for Kobe to face a defense as bad as that one, he did face an equally bad defensive team in the Suns in 2010, and put up 33.7/7.2/8.3 with just 2.5 TOV on 52.1%FG/63.7%TS, 135 ORTG to Lebron's 35.7/7.5/5.7 with 5.6 TOV 51%FG/59.9%TS & 113 ORTG in the Washington series. Lebron also played 35 more minutes to get the 12 extra points.

It is almost factually impossible to have more Finals MVPs than championships, lol. You know, those things tend to go hand in hand. Furthermore, having seen 2004 transpire, it would seem Kobe Bryant did in fact care a lot about being the MVP of a series.

The problem is, the numbers you're posting aren't apples to apples in a sense. The OP emphasized LeBron's first series at the age of 21. The closest thing Kobe has to that is at a similar age. And at that age, he produced similarly, which really makes the OP irrelevant.

Yeah, and you're comparing a kid LeBron to pretty much end of peak Kobe. How about 2017 Finals? LeBron dropped a light 34/12/10/1/1 on 63%, while being guarded by KD, Green, and Klay. That's a better series than Kobe ever dreamed of having. Not even close. Did I mention the fact that the Warriors were the #1 offense and #2 defense? A 67 win team?

LeBron probably has at least a half dozen series better than Kobe's BEST and Kobe's second best wouldn't be in LeBron's top 10.

Not really peak Kobe, he had his knee drained mid-Playoffs and played with a broken index finger on his shooting hand, but he absolutely annihilated bad defenses in the Playoffs like Lebron, difference is he played in the triangle like Jordan & didn't dominate the ball as much to rack up the assist totals. The small difference in ppg doesn't really say much here. Most of Lebron's best series came in losses as well, so would you really compare those to Kobe playing winning basketball on a teams that won championships? Also, there's the difference in eras and peak Kobe (06-07) playing on mediocre teams. 07 Spurs shut down Lebron, he had the worst/2nd worst series of his career while 08 Kobe toyed with the same defense, also, young Kobe annihilated those Spurs squads and went 4 - 1 against them in the Playoffs from 01-08.

Warriors did have a great defense, but played at a ridiculous pace in 2017 and 2018 Finals, and the series were mostly lopsided so how much worth do we put in these stats? Great, Lebron averages a 30-point triple-double, but loses in blowouts and isn't even the best player in the series.

What are you smoking? It's also funny how you want to bring up injuries now, but want to downplay injuries to LeBron's teammates.

That being said, you literally can't refute anything I said, cause I was posting FACTS. Lets not forget that LeBron's '12 series vs Boston, '09 series vs Orlando, '09 vs Hawks, '09 vs Pistons, '18 vs Boston, '18 vs Raptors, '18 vs Indiana, etc. are all better than Kobe's bets, and it's not close.

Kobe doesn't dominate the ball? LMAO! The guy's picture is next to the word selfish and ballhog in the dictionary.

Also, the '07 Spurs are not the same as the '08 Spurs. How you now understand that? If you want to compare that way, LeBron was lighting up the same Magic team that Kobe shot 29% against in the 4th Q's. LeBron backdoor swept the same Thunder team that embarrassed Kobe in the '12 PO's.

Lebron averaged 34/11/4 on 59%TS against Boston in the '12 ECF, Kobe '01 vs Kings averaged 35/9/4 59%TS

Cool, Kobe shot badly overall in 4th quarters against Orlando, two of their wins were blowouts and he shot badly in the 4th 1 out of the 2 OT games they won (3/7 FG in OT), and? You'll take pretty stats and an L over slightly worse stats & a W?

Doesn't even come close. Kobe was playing with PEAK Shaq. LeBron was playing with an injured past him prime Wade and Bosh missed significant time due to injury. Context. Why is that an alien concept to you?

Shaq averaged 33/17/2/1/3 that series on 59% TS. :oldlol:

Doesn't matter who he was playing with, he put up those numbers and he closed the Kings out with a sweep with a 48/16 performance. He led the Lakers in WS and he led the Playoffs in RAPM. Kobe and Shaq were both first options, though Kobe also ran the offense as well and was the closer on the team. This is 22 y.o Kobe matching peak Lebron's numbers and he's doing it in a tougher defensive era. You sound really upset today.

Why would I be upset? LeBron in his 17th season took the Lakers to the #1 seed. Kobe couldn't do that past his 14th season. Struggled to make the PO's in his 17th season. LeBron is a top 10 GOAT and there's a good chance Kobe gets kicked out the top 15 with KD, Kawhi, Giannis, etc. rising.

Shaq being in the team doesn't matter? Him garnering double teams and demanding a ton of attention doesn't matter? As I said, learn basketball before you talk about it.

Wow, still using the 2000 Finals argument like Kobe didn't get injured in the first quarter of Game 2...At least he won a game on the road first game back from injury with Shaq fouled out & don't leave out the 5.8 turnovers for Lebron btw :kobe: Lebron played 43 mpg to Kobe's 35 and had 23 turnovers to Kobe's 6. Bowen was First Team All-Defense in 2007, shit for brains. LeBron in 2007 was SIGNIFICANTLY better than Kobe in 2000. Lets not forge the FACT that Kobe was playing with a top 5 GOAT in Shaq, who was commanding pretty much all the defensive attention.

You act like First Team All-Def Bowen was trash, but funny how you ignored the FACT that Brick was guarded by players, who are about 10x worse defensively than 2007 Bowen. Dude got outplayed by Austin Croshere. Let that sink in.

Yeah, got his ankle "fkd up" and still decides to keep chucking the ball. Speaks volumes about his basketball IQ (or the lack of it).

Playing with a top 5 GOAT in Shaq sure does help with that. Not to mention the GOAT coach. Also, literally no one is talking about the '01 PO's. Try to keep up, kid. Mopped the floor with Duncan? "held", like that wasn't Duncan's average at the time (22 ppg on 53%TS in RS). Duncan put up 40 on Shaq and held him to 19 on 38% in one of those games too lol. The way is cherrypick is just amazing. Yeah, and if you remove that one outlier game, Duncan's numbers fall from 23 PPG on 53% TS% to under 20 PPG on under 50% TS%. If you do the same to Shaq, his numbers go up significantly as well.

As for Big Z, are you dyslexic? Ilgauskus averaged 7.8 PPG on 35.1% shooting against the Spurs in the 2007 Finals. Dude was significantly better than Z. The Lakers were a much better team than the Cavs and it's not close.
