An investigation published by the Washington Post Monday night focuses on a complaint filed by a whistleblower—who alleges the Mormon Church holds $100 billion in a charitable fund from member donations that hasn’t been spent in over 20 years—but is instead reportedly intended for the “second coming of Christ.”
The fund is held by Ensign Peak Advisors, the Mormon Church’s investment arm.
The complaint was filed with the IRS on November 21 by David A. Neilsen, a 41-year-old Mormon who worked for Ensign as a portfolio manager—but his twin brother, Lars, provided the Post with a copy of the complaint.
Accompanying the complaint is a 74-page narrative by Neilsen, who alleges Ensign stockpiled $100 billion in charitable donations and deceived church members by doing so.
U.S. nonprofits, including religious organizations are tax-exempt, but Neilsen’s complaint says Ensign should be stripped of its tax-exempt status by the IRS because it has not used the $100 billion on charitable works.
Neilsen’s complaint claims Ensign president Roger Clarke has said the fund would be used should the second coming of Christ occur, while the Post reported that high-ranking cleric Bishop G

Lol at actually thinking the heirachery of the Mormon church is really using this money for the second coming. Lmao. It's definitely a tax dodge, and a big money laundering scheme at the least.

Lots ppg churches do this. Catholic church probably has several times this in reserve. Not using any of it for charity themselves is taking it a step further though, even the Catholics at least pretend to care.

What people do for faith... It's all emotional based and zero rationality.
Other religions do these insane things too. Vatican has artifacts worth hundreds of billions of dollars and actual cash on hand worth billions . Hindu temples do the same stuff - there are temples with massive storages they have been collecting for several thousands of years filled with gold, diamonds, gems, and ancient artifacts all worth hundreds of billions. It's a business and fools give their wealth away to these places to just hold forever for no good reason. Imagine what could be done with that money to help humanity

There was a time when catholicism was the only form of christianity. Then some southern baptists pulled a few versus out of the bible and interpreted them differently and said the only way to get into heaven was to accept Jesus as your personal savior and believe that he died on the cross for your sins. Why separate from what Catholics preached that do not believe in this? So that they could become separate and gain followers. Followers mean $$$$. That

Why does America spend billions in aid on countries that are irrelevant to us? Why do you want to raise your own taxes to give health coverage to homeless people who are probably breaking into your car at night? Youre taking away from yourself to give to people you have nothing in common with. Is that rational in an evolutionary sense?

No, not the government. I am referring to the individuals who gave away their life savings and massive charity to churches/temples/mosques..I wish they had used it to directly help people and advance civilization.
I don't believe in storing money and priceless artifacts in some basement or storage bin or catacombs or in some storage facility for idiotic reasons like waiting for Jesus to come back or for personal gain to a group of religious people handling the money to build more churches/temples/mosques. Use the money to help people, charitable foundations and civilization itself, but that's just my opinion.
