I think they may have made moves based on the competition. Giannis is the best player in the conference and they have a lot of good defenders with length. I don't think that is a coincidence.

I mean that all comes back to the leaders of the team. It's clear that mentally neither Ben nor Embiid are ready to lead a championship squad. They don't have that power to shut off all outside noise and just LEAD.

Covington could have played better but the mentality all comes from the leaders of the team and the coaching.

Covington turned into Josh Richardson and Landry Shamet turned into Tobias Harris...that's not bad at all.


Furkan has been a fine replacement for Shamet off the bench, I think what hurt the most for Philly is losing Redick and TJ tbh. JJ is a bonafide shooter who commands attention and spaces the floor for Ben to run plays and Embiid to work the paint while TJ is the hustle, defensive backup PG every contending team needs.


Having said all that, the Sixers are still fine. Horford was a huge get for them and they are one of the three favorites along with the Raptors and Bucks to win the ECF.

Suck is definitely way overboard, they are still one of the top 2-4 teams in the east, but the fact they "need" shooting isn't a surprise, shooting was their issue last year and they lost TJ and JJ during the off season.

Their team two years ago was so fun when they got Belinelli and Ilyasova off buyouts. It seemed the sky was the limit once Embiid and Simmons matured. Two years later, they haven't matured and they have a questionable Frankenstein roster. They're not out of it, but I'm not a huge fan of what Brand has done.

The real mistake was Colangelo with Fultz. If they had Mitchell or Tatum they would be an EC dynasty. You can't waste a #1 pick like that. Trading him away and then watching him mature into a player in Orlando is just the icing on the cake.
