I have been using Gillette Fusion ProGlide for like 5 years, but I realize now that the cartridges don't last more than like 5 shaves. Quality has significantly dropped in last couple years for the same cost.. I am done getting ripped off. It's time to move on.

I also like clean shave so I don't have to shave daily. I grow beard back quickly but I'm okay shaving every 3rd day.

What do you use?

Just buy a straight razor. Razors are cheap. You dont need shaving cream and if you do it right after a shower, it literally falls off your skin with ease.

Anyone try Schick Hydro 5 Sense Sensitive Skin Razor?? I guess I can try that for $6 for razor/2 blades. If it sucks, I can try Harry's next for $9.

I ordered Cremo shaving cream so I will use that regardless of the blade.

Never used any Schick products. So I can't say.

I do recommend after each razor use rinsing with alcohol, then drying it. It extends the life of the blades considerably. Each cartiridge proably lasts me 2 months or so. Shaving/shaping my beard once or twice a week.

Also I don't know if the Schick your looking at has this, but the Harry's razor has an edge blade as well for getting under your nose, or if you keep a short beard it's great for cleaning up your edges for a sharper look.

The Cremo cream will go a long way. Just make sure your face is warm when applying, or use a almond amount in your hand and splash some hot water on it from the faucet when applying it to your face. Thin layer. It goes on thin and smooth when it's wet/warm.

I went with the Harry's chrome metal handle. Plastic ones are okay, but I prefer the added weight of metal, and the chrome handle has rubber grips, the regular Harry's plastic handles don't. They're just textured plastic where you grip.

The Hydro shaves just as well as the Fusion it's just cheaper because Gillette used to have a near monopoly on the market.

I tried the safety razors. There's definitely a learning curve. I bought The Godfather from Viking Blades. Loved the heft of it. I started with mild blades at first, but I didn't like the closeness of the shave. I switched to Japanese Feather blades and I cut myself like crazy.

The thing I liked least about the blade is to get a great shave you have to hold the razor at a consistent angle to the skin and it's very hard for me to do detail work like lines and sharp edges. I gave up after probably 4 shaves because it would take me twice as long to shave with them.

There is no doubt the quality of safety razors is made to last a lifetime. And you save a ton of money if you can learn the skill of using a safety razor, but I'm too lazy to learn and the convenience of a regular cartridge blade is too important to me.

Wow, it must have been hard to shave before they had mirrors. I use an electric shaver right now, but I'm planning to try a straight razor, but with shaving cream to help alleviate the irritation.

For now I use a five-bladed Schick which does the job well enough; I only need to shave every ten days or so.

My grandmother has the single-blade kit that my grandfather used during his WW2 service, though she refuses to let me take it until she passes away. The blade hasn't touched a human face since he died in 1966 but it's still sharp and completely free of rust. His kit also has the leather sharpening/polishing strap, the Navy-issue handle-less coffee mug and brush he used to mix his lather. I'm going to make sure the blade is still safe to use before I ever use it...but that's literally the only thing of hers that I want when she passes away.

I use Dorco blades, their Pace 6 is my favorite. Cheap and good quality. Buy like a $60 set that lasts me the whole year.

Idk how well it would work with a beard but I've shaved my balls/pubes with a lighter a few times. It gets hot for like a second before going out, never leaving a burn in my case.

Single use disposables... they're always sharp and you dont have to worry about maintaining it.
