6. Duncan
7. Hakeem
8. Moses Malone (played well enough in 80s alone to count)

For a while it was a debate, then everyone settled on Magic over Bird, but it seems to be a debate again.

I always forget about D. Robinson for some reason in these lists.

What's the ISH consensus on who had a better career, Dirk or David?

In the 80s, it was clearly Bird. Shouldn't have ever moved away from that. But one reason Bird should be considered #2 GOAT behind Jordan is because of the change in the game this decade. Bird would have utterly dominated this era with his skill set. Magic was a step slow for a PG and couldn't really shoot. That has hurt his case. It doesn't take away from his legacy exactly, but there should be at least some consideration to pure ability (not to the extent that LeBron stans think).

I don't think Magic was slow when he entered the league. Maybe as he got older. As for shooting, in his 89/90 season, Magic was 38.4% from three, making 1.3 a game.

Also, when people criticize Bird and Magic's athleticism, they fail to take into account all the great athletes Bird and Magic consistently outplayed.

I put Bird ahead considering that he had a few more offensive weapons in his arsenal, considerably better shooter, better rebounder and could pass almost as well as Magic.

Height of peak and girth of prime trumps longevity etc.

Also I don't give players any extra credit for winning rings that most ATGs would have won under the same circumstances (e.g. Kobe & Shaq, LeBron & Wade etc.). It's about level of play.

Normally I do put MJ 1st but I saw some put LBJ out of the top 5 which is worse than MJ at 2. So I adjusted mine accordinly.

Duncan has to be the most overrated player of all time. His peak was pedestrian compared to other all time greats, but you always see him so high up on the all time great list like he was shitting on the league for a good 10 years. It makes me cringe so much. He was NEVER anything special offensively.

As much as i hate the Spurs and in turn Duncan, he's been one of the most steady handed greats ever. It's the fact that his game lacked flash that makes most not appreciate it, but he was consistently playing at his level for a long time.

Well if we were allowed to include all players like Wilt/Russell, Duncan would be around 7th. You think it's that egregious of a ranking? Who else would you put ahead of him?

He averaged 25/15/5 in the playoffs in 2003 and destroyed the Shaq/Kobe Lakers en route to winning the title.

What the **** are you talking about his peak wasn't that good?

He was the best player on title teams 9 years apart. He lead his team to the most consecutive 50 win seasons in NBA history. Do you not realize how absurd that is? They won 50 games every year from 2000 through 2016 under Duncan. In fact, the only year of his career...irrc...his team didn't win 50 or more...was in 99 when the season was only 50 games because of the lockout....the year they won the title and I believe won at a 60 win pace.

Having this opinion is just pathetic.

He was a great player coached by an all time great coach on a very good team in a weak era for most of his career. I think that's what you meant to say. He NEVER came close to carrying teams like David Robinson did yet he's considered better? gtoh. Duncan could have NEVER carried the teams Big Dave did.

He didn't carry the Spurs in '03? When in the playoffs he led the team in points, rebounds, assists & blocks. That's as big a carry job on a title team as there's ever been, up there with '94 Hakeem

What do you call what he did with the 03 Spurs?

He won 60 and a title with that group? 20 year old Ton Parker?

Come on man...it is one of the biggest start to finish carrying of a team ever. 60 wins and a title? 25/15/5...while providing some of the best interior defense of all-time in the process? Beating Shaq/Kobe?
