It's interesting how we've seen USG% skyrocket recently among some of the best players in the NBA.

Not sure what MJ's USG% would have been in the 80's (probably massive), but guys like Kobe, Wade, and Lebron usually had the highest consistent USG% since the mid-2000s (usually between 29-35%).

However we have seen Harden, Westbrook, Luka, and Giannis posting crazy USG% over the last few years (36%-42%), which is crazy to think about.

Curious if the causes of this are simply more possessions happening or if they truly are finishing just a higher percentage of possessions even compared to past stars. Also seems to be more of a strategy change to have one guy simply do more.

What is USG?

They handle the ball more, but I think it has more to do with how teams are built. Just look at the Warriors last season. Draymond had the ball a lot, when he is really your 4th option on the team. That was the best way for that team. Westbrook, Harden, and Luka are just so much better scorers and playmakers than the rest of the team, so why not use that all the time?
