View Full Version : Nick wright said kawhi didnt shut lebron down in 2014 finals

Bronbron23
12-25-2019, 03:44 PM
Nick wright was in full denial mode this week when talking about how lebron fears lebron. He brought up the 2014 finals asking how did kawhi shut lebron down when lebron had 28 pts on 57% shooting. This is typical nick wrigh hiding behind misleading stats. Kawhi absolutely shut lebron down. Lebron was 34% from the field when kawhi gaurded him. This includes possessions where lebron was getting wide open due to screens and other factors. In possessions where kawhi was able to gaurd lebron one on one with no screens or anything lebron shot 20% from the field. Against all other defenders lebron shot an insanely high percentage which is why his shooting percentage was so impressive that series.

If your a lebron fan and think hes the goat then you have to give it up to kawhi for holding the goat to these numbers.

That Lebron reacting to Kawhi entering the game has been debunked a million times but MJ getting locked up by GP is established fact. The best counter argument we've heard is MJ "pulled his foot off the pedal" after going up in the series. I don't see how that helps MJ considering it throws MJ's killer instinct myth out the window.

then imagine getting blown out by record margins facing this:

Bleacher Report: How Boris Diaw Shut Down LeBron in the Finals

On LeBron, Diaw wasn't suffocating him or daring him to create off the dribble. He would stand back, give LeBron his space. If he put the ball on the floor, Diaw's body was there. If he elected to shoot, Diaw would use his long arms to recover and contest the shot. And it worked. It all just worked.

During a six-minute run spanning between the third and fourth quarters, the Spurs outscored the Heat 21-2. LeBron played every second of that stretch while Diaw logged more than five-and-a-half minutes, most of which were spent defending The Chosen One, who was 0-for-4 from the field in that time.

Mario Chalmers gives the rock to James, who's just inside the arc. Diaw, meanwhile is more than an arm's length away from him.

Seeing this space, LeBron makes like he's going to his left:

Diaw shifts his feet, but doesn't commit to defending the lateral dribble. He remains a healthy distance away from James, who picks up his dribble seeing that Diaw won't come close enough for him to go around him.

Rod was a non factor scoring wise but he had a shit ton of rebounds which gave the bulls extra possessions. Problem is rod wasnt great defensively. He let kemp get 27 and 13.

Game 6 rodman was mvp. Mj was mvp for both games 1 and 3 though so i still don't t know how you have rod winning fmvp. Again how can i guy win fmvp by scoring 7 points a game and getting worked over on the defensive end?

"Jordan will get his points, but Rodman's rebounds, that was the difference."

"His offensive rebounds at the end killed us," Detlef Schrempf said. "He kept them in the game."

"As you evaluate the series," said Karl, "Dennis Rodman won two games. We could control Dennis Rodman for four games, but Game 2 and tonight, (19 rebounds, 11 offensive after 20 rebounds, 11 offensive in Game 2) Dennis Rodman was the reason they were successful. Sonics coach George Karl is already playing magician, using his right hand to point the finger at the Jazz's alleged reliance on illegal defense while his left hand orchestrates a defense that led the league in illegal "D" calls."Utah plays the best zone in basketball," Karl said. There you have it the Coach of the Seattle Supersonics literally saying that Rodman was the MVP :lol
So thats whst determines MVP's now? Its no secret thst the sonics ant there coach weren't huge fans of mj so theres obviously some bias there. And lets just say for argument sake your right. Whats your point exactly? So mj lost one fmvp to a teammate. Thats better than losing multiple fmvps to opponents. 3 of those opponents being his direct competition.

Soon after, Utah Coach Jerry Sloan began complaining about Seattle's defense, saying it was an illegal zone most of the time

-5/24/96

BULLS' GOAL: DON'T ALLOW SUPERSONICS TO GET INTO A ZONE

Seattle led the league in illegal-defense infractions this season, with opponents regularly complaining the Sonics play a zone, with one or two players wandering on defense instead of guarding somebody.

Bulls coach Phil Jackson already has made a point of mentioning Seattle's zone during interviews this week.

-chicago tribune 6/5/96

Chicago Is Zoning In

A farmer at heart, Phil Jackson was planting seeds again today. He kept referring to Seattle's tenacious defense as a "zone defense," perhaps angling early for some illegal defense calls.

"The one we like the best is the box and one on Michael," Jackson said.

Jackson also basically dared George Karl to stick Gary Payton on Michael Jordan, saying he genuinely believed the Sonics would not make that move. "I don't think Seattle is going to put Gary Payton on Michael Jordan," Jackson said. "We like that matchup because he'll get in foul trouble.

"In a zone defense like Seattle plays, they're just going to send him some way where they can double-team him all the time."

do you take legendary coaches jerry sloan and phil jackson's word as gospel too? was m-goat facing endless zone defenses during the second threepeat era? box and ones, 2-1-2s and winning fmvp after fmvp?

MJ feared Hakeem

Sure, because he was in six Finals out of ten years, while Dream avoided him.

Bron shot 38% for the game. I wonder what his percentage was when kawhi was gaurding him. I wonder how many shots he took when kawhi was on him? From what i saw it looked like Bron as usual was tentative to attack kawhi. Bron clearly looks uncomfortable when kawhi is checking him. Not sure why Bron Stan's like Nick wright and Manny (aka spacejam) have such a hard time admitting this.

Its like another finals was lost. But its just a regular season game. But then again, when you have an entire career NOT making the western conference playoffs, I see how a game on christmas day can be someones championship game.

It was a good game. I just dont see how the lakers are gonna beat them. Clippers are better built for playoff success and they have a guy that does give bron some problems. I dont know why bron stans are in denial about this everyone has a guy they struggle against. Even mj.
