View Full Version : [Throwback] Nick Wright: We lie about what MJ did and didn't do

Nick Wright:
With Lebron we try to disregard everything that has happened post Mavericks series because it's the greatest 5 and a half year run in the history of the sport. And we end up just focusing on the early career.
Can we do that with Michael Jordan? These are facts. 3 straight first round exits. Do you know how many Lebron has..? The same as me, none. How many times did MJ beat Bird's celtics? Oh.. zero. How did Jordan get past the bad boy Pistons? They got old. The year he finally beat them, they were a 40 win mediocre team.
Jordan's first title.. it was the showtime Lakers! No it wasn't. Kareem wasn't there and that team was led in points by James Worthy. It was an okay finals team, not a great one.
When Lebron left the Cavs, they went from 60 wins to the #1 pick in the draft. Lebron left the heat, they went from 4 straight finals to out of the playoffs. Jordan left the bulls and they went from 57 wins to 55. We lie about what MJ did and didn't do. Some people believe that MJ would've won 8 straight. But what happened when he came back..? He lost to the Magic, I know the NBA burnt the tapes. Mj is back!! plastered everywhere. He wasn't good enough to get past Shaq/Penny. Got ripped by Nick Anderson

Except it's not when you mention the context, which you conveniently swept under your carpet.

6/6/6 FMVPs versus 6 finals losses. I wonder how Nick handles that one.

No chance of the Cavs making the playoffs if LeBron misses 64gms in his 2nd season.
86 Bulls w/o MJ for 64gms were able to do so though.

Nick Wright is obviously lying:
Isiah/Dumars/Rodman were 29/27/29 when MJ beat them in 1991 - they were NOT old - it's Garnett/Allen/Pierce who were 35/36/34 when Lebron beat them in 2012
And regarding the 1st Round exits - if Lebron led his lottery casts in 04' and 05' (teams that were lottery the prior year) to 8 seeds like MJ did, they would've been destroyed by the champion 1 seeds just like MJ's 8 seeds were - heck, Lebron's high seeds get beat by record amount, so his 8 seeds would get destroyed by astronomical amounts.. it would be ridiculous how bad they'd get beat.

If a guy like MJ could dominate the league to the extent that you are suggesting then it just goes to show how awful the level of play was back then. I appreciate the candor.

Think about it this way
Young Giannis and Lebron got locked up by championship comp in 07' and 19', while MJ always played well against Rodman and the Bad Boys, or the 86' Celtics' #1 defense
Accordingly, someone who is clearly superior to Giannis and Lebron should dominate any era to goat extent

One additional problem is that Detroit won 50 games when the Bulls swept them on the way to their first title.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/DET/1991_games.html
Isiah played only 48 games that year and they still won 50.
It wasn't until 2 years later that they won only 40. Who is the one lying here?

Hacks in sports have always existed, just like they exist in politics. No different.
Nick however, he's a bottom dwelling one if you know how to read him correctly.

Lebron's been the best player ever since 2016. Having playoff averages of 34/8/9 on 55% shooting. When we are comparing the two players. Lebron averages more rebounds, assists, blocks, steals. Shoots the ball better from 2 and 3. Is the more versatile defender, can guard all 5 positions. He can do everything Jordan could do, but better.
Always bringing the facts. :applause:

Nick Wright thinks that losing in the first round is worse than missing the Playoffs. Lebron got taken to 7 games in the first round by Oladipo-led Pacers, now imagine he had to play the GOAT Celtics squads in the first round before his prime.
MJ NEVER lost in the Playoffs with HCA. Lebron lost 3 straight years (09-11).

Isiahh Broke his hand and was not in tip top shape. Than MJ beat a team with an injured Worthy . Look at 1994 he leaves and they don't miss a beat.. Lebron leaves and boom .. Teams scuk without him

Cut off for Lebron after his worst defeat. Compares it to sophomore Jordan. Jordan losing in the first round is like Lebron missing them, because in the 80s chances were higher for a bad team to take the 8th seed.
If we make the cut off for both right before the first chip the topic might become interesting.
