View Full Version : What's up with the Kobe delusion?

Why the hell are people still trying to put Kobe's name next to MJ?

"We know what MJ and Kobe would've done"...

We KNOW what MJ would have and pretty much always did...and that's be the best player on the court and be the most reliable clutch player ever.

Kobe honestly wasn't close to MJ in the playoffs and finals. Sure, Kobe had a couple of regular seasons on MJ's level...but just a couple (3-4?). And Kobe sure as HELL wasn't close to MJ in the clutch...just because you ACT tough at the end of games doesn't mean much when you still don't deliver at a good enough rate.

MJ is legit in another tier of basketball player than Kobe, without a doubt.

Kobe gets the advantage over MJ due to having played closer to the modern era.

Was always the best and most dangerous player on the court.

Statistically? Prime Kobe played at roughly the same level as 1996-1998 MJ.

In the playoffs too.

Of course I would still take Jordan. He was the better finals performer.

The reason Kobe gets mentioned with Jordan though, besides that, is because Kobe was a straight shooter. And had the skills to back up his talk. Skills akin to Jordan.

There is no "delusion". Nobody is saying Kobe = Jordan.

beans must've been an absolute beast in the jordan era then, right? dude was drafted in the mid 90s after all.

pray tell- what sort of godly #s did he put up against the milkmen and auto mechanics of the time?

Oh, absolutely. One look at this guy and they plucked him straight out of high school to the pros. And he wasn't drafted in the mid 90s. We always go by the 3-4-3 format when partitioning a decade. Thus, Kobe was strictly a late 90s product. This was an era where literally only Shaq, MJ and The Phaggit knew how to play basketball. There were still way too many AMERICAN whites in the league at the time.

interesting that preps to pros once in a generation talents like beanie man and kg who were drafted in the middle of the auto mechanic era took 4-5 years to acclimate to such a weak era.

odd that kob didn't give them '19-'20 harden #s at any time during his stint in the mid-late 90s.

meanwhile, by his second season post prom night, lekang was already a 27/7/7 figga nigguh... 30/8/7 the next season during the introduction of the no touching perimeter rules.

very odd.

The bolded is actually exactly what people are saying.

I mean, there have been other "tough, not afraid" players in the clutch like Bird, but I don't hear players like QRICH mention him. Also, there are plenty of NON-All Star level players who try to be like MJ and fail often in the clutch...guys like Jamal Crawford come to mind but no one mentions him.

We just have too many guys acting like Kobe = MJ, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs/finals/clutch.

Well, of course. Harden is substantially better than Kobe. LeGod, even moreso. What even are you saying? Look, if you don't have a point to make stop wasting my time.

can you explain why beans, a decade into his career, had his career scoring high season at the same exact time as legoat and virtually every other perimeter star? iverson was drafted same exact time as mamba... same phenomena.

what happened in the middle of the last decade that caused this?

was there an auto mechanics' strike or something?

So mid 00's is before LeGod usurpsed the throne. Stern was still in charge and he was getting restless so he started pushing the players more. As a result the level of play increased across the board. They also brought in fresh new talent which was way ahead of anything they had in the past. Competition breeds competition.

you're acting as if this is something new, kobe is and has always been overrated, there's nothing in basketball that shows or proves he's tier 1.
