1996 sonics for mike (but 27th ranked, not top 25 *not listed) was his best

damn
Not surprising. Most of the all-defense players were on MJ's own team.

That Tim Duncan led 7 out of the top 15 best defensive teams of all-time is more noteworthy, I think.

Very true :applause:

But I'm very surprised those 2000's Pistons were nowhere to be found, esp the '04 squad

I love how Rose fans refuse to accept how important the defense and bench play was on those teams.

Historically good defense and a team that was +7 points per 100 possessions without Rose on the court.

Against the Spurs in the early 2000s it was actually Kobe being great almost every time. I'm not sure why he played some of his best playoff basketball against those very good Spurs teams and worse playoff games against worse teams... but he did. Shaq was doing fine against the Spurs but it was Kobe that made the difference. And then in the Finals it was Shaq most of the time.

well kobe loves challenges. Hes not a frontrunner. And thats what really separates winners from lebron and the reason too why hes clutch.

This is a very moronic way of comparing defenses. DRTG alone doesn't even work like that. No surprise it's the work of a Bron stan

The more accurate way would be to measure DRTG relative to the league average. That way you can tell which defenses are most dominant without the impact of era

When you do that, you get a much better picture.

The Spurs had players to slow down Shaq. Robinson and Duncan were two great defenders. So it was just smart basketball to play through Kobe. In the Finals? Mutombo was the only capable defender. The Pacers and the Nets didn't have anybody to stop Shaq. So it was smart basketball to go through Shaq. That's really all. Had the Lakers played the Spurs in the Finals Kobe would've gotten at least 2 FMVPs.
