Came in here to say this. I started watching the NBA when Stern successfully turned around the league by 1991, and enjoyed a couple of decades of unimpeachable success. His last few years did show a few missteps like the lockout and the Chris Paul thing, so that left a bad taste in many fans' mouths.

But I'll always remember Stern as the best sports commissioner I've ever seen.

Thought that was Tim Donaghy and Stern was doing damage control.

No he covered it up (Donaghy admitted NBA and NBC execs were giving orders on how the series should go) and it blows my mind that they got away with rigging a championship (that’s essentially what it was) and got away with it. Can you imagine this happening with the Super Bowl or World Series? I mean, our gov basically shut down and had Congressional hearings because some baseball players used roids. It’s amazing how this got swept under the rug.

Bron would have 6-8 rings this decade if Stern had been commissioner and protected Bron like he did his precious Jordan. Silver has screwed Lebron big time by allowing the KD/Warriors collusion and now the obvious tampering between Clippers and Kwahit and PG. Stern was watering down the league with expansion so MJ could prosper.

Afterlife.

There is no afterlife, you just tell that to yourself to make you feel better. It's silly to think there is an afterlife ONLY for humans, yet literally everything else in the universe that dies...well simply dies and never exists again.

It's obvious that once a person dies, they are gone forever. Same for all forms of life.

If you aren't sentient, then it doesn't matter what your "atoms" do after you die when referencing our experiences as humans. The things that make you "yourself", will never be able to recreate you again. Your personality is gone, your memories, etc. Did you experience the previous billions of years of the universe existing before you were alive? No? Well, that's what death will be like...except for a LOT longer. The moment you die, then everything else in the universe dies from your perspective.

If you want to act like a trillion years into the future, "David Stern" will exist again, then we will just have to disagree...maybe some of Sterns atoms will be a part of a star...

He was a good NBA commission though.

A miracle? No, it isn't. That's impossible that life can create itself by accident. It takes more faith to believe in no afterlife.

As for David Stern, I don't want someone to die, but he was a horrible commissioner who fixed titles for MJ and the 00-02 Flukers and took the Sonics out of Seattle. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Someone felt compelled to bring out an alt?

Also, the bolded is complete crap. The building blocks for "life" are created (indescribably complex) through physics and the laws of the universe/nature. New "life" is constantly created right here on Earth all the time. Describing it as an "accident" or not is not using the appropriate frame of mind. It is a natural chain reaction.

You personally believe in the afterlife because you can't emotionally handle thinking the alternative. Religion in simply free therapy for you. To suggest it takes MORE faith to not believe in contrived, made up nonsense is a ridiculous take. Are you really trying to compare "faith" with scientific theories?

Try some critical thinking. Which "afterlife" do you believe in? There have been tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of different "afterlifes" that humans have made up over human history. It's painfully obvious this is just part of peoples survival instincts kicking in while having to face existential oblivion.

Like it or not, this is most likely true. Christianity has lasted a long time for a religion for 2000 years. Think it will be around in 10,000, 100,000, 1 million years? Unfathomable, and we ourselves may be extinct in any of those time frames. But a million years is a blink of an eye for the trillions of years the universe will most likely exist.

And as much as we humans like to believe in an afterlife in which an all-powerful God is fixated on us, if an asteroid blows up earth, the universe will continue as if we never existed. We are sentient and for that we should be thankful. Doesn't mean the universe owes us sh*t.

Did you experience the previous billions of years of the universe existing before you were alive? No? Well...

You already contradicted yourself with that logic.

The only reason your memories are gone is because your physical brain and form is gone. It goes without saying you cant explicitly remember memories that were created in another body.

The very fact that you became something from nothing is proof that it will happen again. If you could never become something from nothing, which is what you illustrated we were before we were born, then how do you currently exist?

It's painfully obvious this is just part of peoples survival instincts kicking in while having to face existential oblivion.

Paragraph 1: http://www.scienceagainstevolution.org/v7i3f.htm

Paragraph 2: The standard BS answer that all atheists put out there. Atheism is way more of an emotional position than Christianity. BTW, I don't consider myself religious. Jesus came to mend a broken relationship between man and God, not to start a new religion.

Paragraph 3: You are an atheist. You don't know what critical thinking is. And, what "afterlifes" are you talking about? You made that up. I only believe in the one where you spend heaven with Jesus and God when you die (and after the Great White Throne Judgement).

Wow, you are so out of it and brainwashed. Just accept it man, you need religion otherwise you couldn't handle actual reality. If you were born in the Middle East, you'd most likely be brainwashed into being a Muslim. That's how fragile and circumstantial your beliefs are. If you were born 3,000 years ago, you'd certainly have different "beliefs". You said it yourself, you choose to "believe" in "heaven", and that's because you can't accept death.

But I'm sure the mods don't appreciate the side-tracking of this thread.
