It's nice to pound your chest, but this will bring about terrible consequences. I get that he's evil, I get that we need to get payback of sorts. But world diplomacy doesn't work like it does on Santa Fe and Gage (my old neighbourhood).

Trump can pound his chest but he's leading this world into a dark place with serious deadly consequences. Our allies will not be fond of this and may not whole heartedly support this.

Our troops and our diplomats around the world will pay the consequences while Trump is out golfing.

What the allies should do is support a US takeover of the middle east. This eliminates terrorism, provides a nice surplus of oil, and we incorporate western thinking and ideals over there. It's a proven formula because look at all the illegals coming to the states and assimilating with ear to ear grins. It's like gentrifying a ghetto, only on a bigger scale. Allies win. We win. Everyone wins except terrorists and their supporters.

Statement by the Department of Defense
JAN. 2, 2020
At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.

General Soleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region. General Soleimani and his Quds Force were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and the wounding of thousands more. They have been preparing for a war with the US since early 80s. They have built up their military with the US in mind. Their country is also mountainous, making a ground assault much more tougher than say Iraq, which is much flatter until you get to the Northern region. Huge chunk of Iraq is a valley around Tigris and Euphrates (sp). Iran will not be a walk in the park.

Be careful what you wish for. Many people will die on both sides. Iran will fight dirty and not let up as quickly as Iraq did.

A war with Iran is not in our best interest and will throw the region into further disarray. A war is certainly not in Iran's best interest, though they have been gearing up for a confrontation with us for decades. I'm hoping cooler heads will prevail.

Incidentally, as I and I believe other posters have pointed out prior, this championing of the draw down of troops in the Middle East was and is a facade.

You really do underestimate what the US is capable of. If we want to cease Iran's existence, we can. There are 10 million people from the middle east living in america that are very happy. Those people there are begging for us to show them the way. They are tired of the terrorists that live among them. We will come in, prevail, and help our ally Israel do what is necessary. Is there actually a belief out there that there is a military on this planet that can match our own? Whether Iran has a strong military or not, that is a tiny country going up against a giant if it ever got to that point. There is nothing Iran can do to us that we wouldn't do to them a thousand times over.

But the Iranian people are good people. The youth over there wants a revolution. Maybe we're just paving the way for them to take the power back.

One major source of conflict in the Middle East is the divisive nature between the two main sects of Islam: Sunni and Shi'a. Though these two sects agree on the fundamentals of Islam and the teachings of the Qur'an, they are in conflict about who would lead the Muslim community after the Prophet Muhammad's death. Not to worry. Big brother US is on the scene and will sort all this out and end the conflict. :applause:

The logic to attack is stupid and extremely idiotic.

Pompeo stated the attack was to prevent further attacks. Iran has now vowed revenge. The dooms day clock just forwarded its time. Experts all over the world are in panic mode. White House insiders are going nuts. Trump essentially declared war without Congress approval.

This was all planned.
We were never gonna leave the Middle East.

As usual, this all leads to Putin.

Oil prices will go up around the world, Russia will be the supplier. I made a post about this a while back.

is it a shocker that as soon as Putin and Trump met in private we have these incidents unfold?

A first-world military is only as good as its ability to project power and Iran has approximately dick as far as force projection capabilities go.

The bulk of the Iranian Air Force is using 30+ year old MiGs and Phantoms while the US operating post at Diego Garcia alone has more transport/refueling craft than Iran has in total. The Iranian Navy and the IRGC Navy are frigate navies, not capable of operating beyond the Gulf. Nothing bigger than a torpedo boat. The Iranian Army and Revolutionary Guard Corps are millions strong and waiting for a ride to actually go somewhere.

So if you're stupid enough to attack a mountainous nation like Iran with a millions-strong active duty military and a civilian population that is fiercely resistant to outside interference in their affairs? Yeah, that's a pretty dumb idea.

And none of that really matters because Iran has a marked advantage in one area: a surplus of poor dumb Muslim fanatics who will suicide bomb civilian targets as part of their warfare strategy.

But this isn't what this is about.

This shouldn't be happening. This is exactly what many warned about. This is as bad as Bush starting the war in Iraq based on lies. Iraq war and the takeover of the Middle East was one of the worst moves in history. It brought about great turmoil and death all to profit the rich.

This move by Trump will result in predicted disorder not just in the Middle East, but in Europe, and will impact our home.

Experts all over the world are condemning this move by Trump and leaders are scrambling to react appropriately.

Only fools believe this was a great move.

Iraq is lost, Afghanistan will be lost. Thousands of American troop's lives have been lost, hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars will go to waste, intel will go to waste, allied relationships down the tube, all due to a reactionary move without contemplation.

That's only the beginning.

Iran doesn't actually have to do anything. They don't even have to fund terrorist organizations. Today, I fear that more people in the middle-east will be signing up with terrorist organizations simply because Iran vowed revenge. We Americans have to be ready for heavy repercussions not only from Iranian government but also terrorist organizations from rest of the Middle east striking at the USA..

Trump essentially threw a stick at a hornets' nest. Now we wait for them to come at us raging.

Trump essentially threw a stick at a hornets' nest. Now we wait for them to come at us raging.

Why the hell do a preemptive strike? Why why why?? We are still not done with Iraq and Afghanistan.. Now add Iran to the mix soon. :hammerhead:
That analogy would be assuming were some defense less person waiting to be stung by hornets. Do you really believe the US is that? :facepalm

The idea that America is "responding" to little embassy attacks etc is nonsense IMO.

It was decided DECADES ago by the military industrial complex that we will be perpetually involved in the middle east, as a justification for a perpetually ballooned U.S. military.

America low key encourages rebellions and terrorism and etc, so that it can justify coming in and squashing it.

This is not a Trump thing. It's not an Obama thing. It's not a Bush thing. It's not a Clinton thing. I did have hope that as an outsider, Trump would be able to achieve some resistance to it. But it appears he cannot.

None of these Presidents are making these decisions willy-nilly. First of all, they have no investment in it. The President doesn't give a **** if we're over there or not. He's just some guy. But the immense monied interests that control Washington push for this. And I believe every President quickly realizes that he either plays ball, or he won't be around long.

People in this thread debating the merits of these things as if what's reported in the news are the genuine causes and reasons for doing something or not doing something etc. makes me LOL.

This shit has already been decided. The arguments people are having in this thread are the exact arguments theyre supposed to be having. Is it Trump's fault? Is Trump right to do it?

Trump doesnt decide this shit. Money does.

Average people can't really understand more abstract ideas like that tho. They need a PERSON. They need one leader they can either rally around or rally against. Trump is the average person's savior or foil. Just like Obama was. And Bush etc. Everything else going on is way over their heads.

Reading some idiot parrot like bladefd repeating talking points he's been given from his "always support the opposite of what Trump does" peer group is mind numbing. Not only does he have no foreign policy understanding or experience - as most of us dont - but he doesnt even have a salient mind. He's just a bot, repeating the things he thinks will make him sound smart. He doesnt understand a word of it.

This whole thread is mind numbing verbal vomit. No one here is qualified to speak intelligently on foreign policy subjects, including myself, because none of us have access to the real information. The information we get filtered to us through the news is a puppet show. It's all fake. The reasons the government gives us are not the ACTUAL reasons anything is being done. And yet utterly average, uneducated boobs like Draz think their voice is needed on this issue? Does anyone look to DRAZ for his foreign policy expertise??? Jesus Christ.

Completely agree with a lot of this. But, the hardcore Trump supporters do deserve a lot of of it because they were celebrating that Trump would drain the swamp and that he was anti-neocon, etc. Well, guess what? He clearly is not and broke a bunch more promises along the way. But instead of owning up to it and staying consistent with their stances (which would have been enough), they just double-down and turn into warmongers. For that, they deserve to get called out every time in my book. I remember criticizing people in the left who were doing that with Obama. It's no different here. Well to be fair, there was genuine reason to believe he would not play the establishment game. As a layperson he’d been critical of both Bush and Obama, so he clearly just wasnt repeating partisan lines either way. And one of his main financial backers, Carl Icahn, was also on record saying Iraq was just about the oil and that we never should have went. So it’s not like Trump had a history of repeating “we must get the terrorists” stuff.

And he has tried to float the idea of large scale pull outs. I honestly think he wants to get out and is doing what he can. Ut it’s not all within his control. I spoke with a 25 yr old kid recently on a bus whod been deployed numerous times, and he was saying no President actually understands what’s going on, because they arent over there. And generals and foreign policy shills etc can tell them basically anything and the Prez doesnt know any better. None of them have served.

It’s not like Trump is making these decisions personally. Who HONESTLY thinks that?? Generals and various foreign policy “experts” are telling him what to do. And theyre all invested in more war. Imagine if he goes against their wishes and then we really do get attacked hard? Thats a lot of blood on one guy’s conscience.

We have to move past the partisan stuff. I know it isnt you, but TONS of Americans shriek bloody murder when Bush or Trump or anyone with an (R) does a war, but then theyre quietly obedient when Obama or Clinton does it, and insgead get upset that congressional Republicans are blocking trans bathroom initiatives.

How can we go anywhere when the base are just attached to blind, mindless party loyalty?? It’s the only thing that makes them feel safe and included. Otherwise bladefd has no place in the discussion. He’ll just be watching from the sideline while the intelligent people talk. He needs to feel he’s part of an intelligent group. So hes gonna keep piping up with memorized talking points. He cant be reasoned with.

America is millions of bladefds all around.

It’s pretty brutal tbh.

It's both ways when it comes to blind mindless base. I don't distinguish what side they are coming from. Why do you defend the Trump side so much? Especially when they are the loudest now?

Trump is the best shot we've had and will have to get a relatively non partisan outsider in the presidency.

Again, Trump has criticized federal reserve policy, he's supported lowering taxes. He's tried to fight immigration, which would create more wealth parity. He's threatened sanctuary cities with federal funding. But he doesn't get to write the budget himself and he can't go patrol the border himself. And he's endlessly resisted by special interest puppets in Washington who have manipulated a bunch of woke robots to bleet ORANGE MAN BAD at every turn to drown out Trump's pleas for sensible policy. He's not super man, he's not perfect, and I don't agree with him on everything... but is this not the best chance we've had in a long time? Why not get behind him and at least get some momentum in the anti-establishment direction??

He's criticized foreign occupation before becoming President, and he's tried to float the ideas of pulling out already. But again, the liberal press has the anti-Trump lap dogs SCREECHING that anything Trump does is wrong, even when he's now saying exactly what they were saying before he took office.

The war/occupation thing is way bigger than Trump. He's got conniving neocon oligarchs in Washington plotting his downfall secretly, phony Democrat shills plotting his downfall openly, and half the country are brainwashed zombies that would mindlessly charge at him on sight and chew his face off because they're been convinced to be angry at him without understanding why. I think you and most people are underestimating the position this ****ing guy is in. Yeah, me and a few other guys on ISH can say 'MAGA baby!' but we really can't do anything to help him. Meanwhile everyone else is willing to have him JFK'd. If he doesn't go along with some of these people some of the time, he's absolutely toast. He cannot go rogue on every single issue. That is an impossible expectation.

I agree with you that free trade is likely ideal in the long term... but we've long been getting taken advantage of in this realm and Trump is actually using what strength we still have left to get some concessions from other countries. What's wrong with that? Even if you do disagree with it, what do you think he stands to gain? Every other puppet shill on either party would never have ever addressed this. It shows me that he's actually trying to do some things for the country besides strictly playing ball, the way every President in our lifetimes has done previously.

Again, some of these things should in theory be bringing Democrats closer to center and engendering some cooperation between partisan sides going forward. But they are conditioned animals. If Trump does it, they must hate it. It's that simple. These are not intelligent human beings, these are mouth foaming animals. If Bernie or Andrew Yang or some left wing outsider were to become President, I would be pleading with people on the right to only dispute policy issues they can logically refute (which there would be plenty of, based on their platforms), and not simply subverting those guys at every turn because they're from 'the other party.'

It just happens that right now, Trump is the guy in office, and he's the one dealing with all the mindless partisan attack zombies. So yeah, I support giving him a chance and setting a precedent to get more outsiders into the office.

I give you props that you are openly willing to discuss is. I will say that I disagree with this viewpoint and that's ok because we can agree to disagree. Trump had a chance at being a good shot as an outsider, but it became very clear early (like a month in) that he wasn't going to be that person. What Trump says doesn't matter much. He can criticize federal reserve policy all he wants but the actions he has taken are as bad as Obama when it comes to the Fed.

The trade protectionism and managed trade ideas is one of Trump's worst pushes. Not only did it turn out as damaging as we knew it would be, I don't think Trump supporters even understand how far off they are from the issue. He's using it to drum up support and put blame on other nations, but more importantly taking the attention off of the real problems in our economy.

It's great that Trump for a brief time was seen as an outsider and someone that would drain the swamp. But at the same time, if it doesn't work, you can't all just go, whelp, he doesn't have control of anything, so too bad. Nah, criticism is deserved. Every president can say they didn't have as much control as they wanted and we didn't spare them from criticism at the time.

Maybe you don't see it because you are a supporter yourself, but a lot of these "mouth foaming animals" are on Trump's side too. They absolutely deserve the criticism. I lost count how many times I heard how we were going to "stomp China" into submission with our tariffs and and it would be a walk in the park to win the trade war in the most obnoxious way. I can honestly say there are a lot of Trump supporters out there that are just as bad as the worst on the left, and that's saying something. It's only fair to be able to criticize both. At some point there is no need to even distinguish between the two.

I trust that those who have said a war with Iran would be swift and easy are trolling. A full scale confrontation with Iran won't simply end when the current Iranian regime is toppled; recent history chronicling or escapades in the region should have long dispelled that notion. Troops would have to remain in the country and in the region long term to establish some semblance of stability and to deal with new terrorist organizations and cells that pop up in the aftermath of the conflict. We would have to figure out how to help a new Iranian regime rebuild and secure their oil. Oil prices would increase. It would be messy and would require several years of continued US involvement. Moreover, the current administration has burned bridges with all of our traditional allies. It is highly unlikely Europe will make any serious commitment to join us... all while Russia, China and Saudi Arabia would be planning how to capitalize.

We should have long recognized that a successful campaign in the middle east requires more than putting up a banner and declaring victory... otherwise we wouldn't still find ourselves in Iraq.

There's also the question of possible insider trading and other SEC violations as Trump was hinting to Mar O Largo guests of something big coming up, giving hints to members.

As expected Grumman, Lockheed, Raytheon and other's stock went up along with oil and gas.

Trump has a tendency to manipulate the stock market for personal gain.

This IS insider trading and it's illegal.

You idiot.

This isn't that simple. Sure the world is better now that he's gone, but that's not what governments do, that's not how we should've approached this.

If getting rid of murderous assholes was the case we could start with no.1 Putin.

The 'consequences' of the assassination are what most are angry about and the reasoning behind it. More importantly some are mad at the possible true purpose behind this (which are a few reasons).

Why do you consistently talk out of your ass? You have no idea what you're talking. You don't speak for the government or their motives. You only speak for your unhinged self. If you have credible intelligence that a bad guy or group will carry out an attack against your citizens or interests, you don't wait till they do it, and then react. You eliminate the threat first.

You should donate your brain to science so that future humans can study the level of triggeredness and paranoia you display on a daily basis.

A. Killing one person will not stop any operation unless that person would personally do it.

B. There is NO evidence that they were actually planning anything.

So even if I play devil's advocate and pretend that they were planning multiple attacks, killing him won't stop anything.

What you would need to do, is stop the actual activities from happening.

In a realistic world sure it'd be nice to simply kill all the bad guys. But the world doesn't work that way, which is why there are tons of dictators and murderous generals around the world.

An unhinged lunatic like yourself is going to lecture us about how the world works. That's rich. The world is full of good and evil and full of weak men and strong men. The weak men accomplish nothing and let others manipulate them, steal from them, use them. While strong men take action, seize the day, and our masters of their own fortunes and destiny.

You say:

What you would need to do, is stop the actual activities from happening.

And you know how you do that? You eliminate the threat. You take decisive action. You don't let murderers and men who wield enormous power for evil walk free and without consequence.

(good luck trying to convince Trumpeters that Trump does not think through anything he says or does. He does whatever he feels like doing whenever he feels like it. If he pushes a war down our throats, Trumpeters will automatically come to his defense.. They won't admit that going to war requires you to deal with the unexpected consequences that are costly and time-consuming. Iraq war cost over 3 trillion dollars and Afghanistan was over a trillion dollars last I checked & the meter is still running. Those 2 wars will probably end up costing 5 to 6 trillion ultimately. Iran would cost around 5 trillion by itself and bring even more costly long-term instability to the region and terrorism to the USA/Europe/Asia)

As for the revenge..... from what I'm getting... Donny's throwing all kinds of deals out there on the swiss express to calm the Iranians. He might be right by the time all of this ends, as he himself will cave to a deal - not offered by him but to him. Iranians are sitting pretty listening to offers now. Election year coming up - driver's seat. It can take months for Iran to prepare an assassination on an American general outside the M.E. There will however be smaller fireworks for the attentive masses to satisfy their thirst for action for the time being. After all, Suleimani wasn't the only one killed, and the toll is currently on an unbalanced disparity. The big one however, that one will take some time, if proportional is the play - which I'm sure it's. Donny making a Carter-like mistake. Shouldn't have Mossad assets in your national security council and close personal/family circle. You pay the price, sooner or later. Although I'm sure Trump values a lot of others things much more than his job. Projecting the value of the job onto him is bad taste on my part I guess.

Foreign policy discussion here, none of us really know or are qualified on.

The social reality tho, is that outcasts and self loathers in society have made it their perpetual preoccupation to attention whore themselves into positions of heroism.

Someone tells an unPC joke, and the whole city of Portland puts on military garb and claims theyre now soldiers fighting a war on fascism.

Hollywood d-list celebs desperate to be relevant are rolling around on the ground before minority groups for show, hoping their shameless theatrics will engender some kind of image of enlightenment and genuine intellectual esteem.

People like OP running around screaming “ITS HAPPENING!!!! WW3 is on!!! ORANGE MAN DUN DID IT THIS TIME!!!!!”

This reminds me of a phenomenon in the animal kingdom called savaging, where mothers animals, often under the stress of domestic living conditions, will turn against even their own babies and try to harm them. It’s the most counter intuitive thing in nature and yet it happens under stress.

In such an oversocialized society as ours, the left are struggling badly to find reason and purpose and identity. Theyre becoming completely unhinged and hating their own country and their own people. They have a social illness that theyre self-diagnosing as some kind of arbitrary righteousness.

It’s a sad state where things have gotten. These people are freaks in crisis. And theyre a danger to everyone.

“Guys. Guys... Hold on. Just stop right there. Imma play a hunch and go the other way on this. I have no background in this area, but Imma do me. So talk to the hand, cuz the Trump dont wannna hear it!”

He’s supposed to say that to all of his advisors and generals with a lifetime of experience? (who are still corrupt but can leverage the threat of terrorism to compel him to act).

IMO youre rather naive about the realities of being a Prez in Washington.

People wanna sit there and wait for a hero. Fine, go ahead and wait, and be always disapponted.

Im telling you we as a collective citizenry need to do OUR part, and show a litle more balls.

But if you wanna blame Trump, blame Trump. Then either he wins another term and you can keep complaining, or a Dem will win, do the same things, and you can keep complaining.

Hey. Do you. :confusedshrug:

I USED to side with Liberals on most issues but holy shit has the Left lost its mind :facepalm

A POS gets bombed to kingdom come and the Left can't see that it's a good thing, instead they are going around like a hysterical chicken with it's head cut off...

There isn't gonna be a WWIII, Iran ain't stupid enough to go head to head against the USA. :oldlol:

Some dude famously said..."I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me".

We don’t want you anyways.

Go join the Trumptards where your bigoted ass belongs.

Bye, Felicia.

Well, when you surround yourself with certain people and then they all advise you a certain way..... it still kinda comes back to you. You gotta admit there has to be at least some blame. When it comes to the warmongering thing, I am not that mad with Trump, I doubt he can be as bad as Bush. I've always been a lot more critical of him with his (and by his, I mean his whole administration) actions on the economy, which to me are far worse.

At the end of the day, I am doing what I always did, just less of it because I am more busy now. Doesn't matter if it's a dem or republican, etc. You said it best when you mentioned arguing with mindless supporters, the "not intelligent human beings, these are mouth foaming animals". I just really don't care which side they are on.

Okay, so you disapprove of Trump.

Then what?

Like, what are you proposing to be done...?

Youre unlikely to be pleased with the outcome of 2020 either way. So the upcoming election wont help.

So what next?

What is it that you want people on the right, the left, or anywhere to DO?

Let’s say everything youre suggesting is correct.

What should we DO?

This is the most important part of the countless hours we all collectively spend on here bickering.

What exactly are you proposing we DO!?

Well I read from someone over there, from someone locally there that he fought in Iraq and Syria by their own government invitation against ISIS, al nusrah and others. He helped Kurdish fighters militarily and tried to maintain Assad's government in Syria against foreign invaders. He defended shi'ite holy city Karbala against invaders.

These are not my words, I'm not seeing anything negative so far. He also did support Iraqi militia groups that fought the US so finally a flag. I'm hearing Israel wanted him dead, so of course you can choose to support his killing for that. But that's not enough for me.

Also where is the proof that Syria gassed and killed it's own people. Were you watching with binoculars or a telescope?

Man, this thread is absolutely hilarious.

Of course so that all the millionaires can make more money off their tax savings , while we can get a tank of gas....
good thinking.

They aren't "making more," they are keeping more of what they earn.

As it should be. No one should be punished for what they make.

the world is better now that he's gone.

:applause:

That US citizen didn't have a position of power in a foreign government, we basically killed their Secretary of Defense/State. Trump also didn't consult with Congress. People need to stop labelling others who disagree with them them left/right, it's irrelevant when you start talking about military affairs.

So the murder of that US Citizen under 44 should be ignored since they weren't in any sort of power position?

Lol at the Iranians now threatening Israel. Yeah, go ahead and provoke them. They'll take out a shit ton more than a few generals.

Yeah, that's a horrible move. Israel has plenty of weaponry stashed just north of Iran in the shithole nation of Azerbaijan.

As a Muslim, you should know the Muslims who harm and kill other Muslims.
