Phil Jackson has hinted a few times that Scottie Pippen was more valuable than Michael Jordan.

When Jackson teamed up with Jordan in Chicago during the '90s, Bulls dominated the entire NBA. Evidently, MJ was the main man but even to this day, it is still an argument whether the GOAT would have won his 6 NBA titles without his co-star Pippen or not.

Based on a statement by Rick Tellander, who worked for the Chicago Sun-Times and covered the Bulls for years, Coach Jackson himself occasionally hinted that Pippen was apparently more valuable than Jordan.

According to Tellander, Jackson’s statements suggested that Jordan was the biggest star in the team but it was actually Pippen who ran the team, Basketball Network reported.

“Phil Jackson, at times has said that Pippen is the team’s most valuable player. Where Jordan is the diamond pendant at the base of the gleaming necklace, Pippen is the thread running through the emeralds, pearls, and lesser stones that compose the whole,” Tellander stated.

Tellander even added that Pippen didn’t only imply a solid defensive approach, but that he was also the key factor in Jackson’s trademark “triangle offense.”

“He’s the glue that holds the Bulls’ triangle offense together, its Doberman defense in place. He’s the facilitator, a point forward who can bring the ball up the court, penetrate, shoot, rebound, hit open teammates, and guard anyone against point guards to power forwards. But most of all, he can play team ball,” Tellander added.

But most of all, he can play team ball,” Tellander added.

Surprisingly, it appears that Tellander was actually telling the truth. In one statement, Jackson gave Pippen props for “directing the Bulls’ offense and defense.” The legendary coach even revealed that Pippen has tremendous leadership skills that “brought out the best” out of his teammates.

“Scottie was our team leader. He was the guy that directed our offense, and he was the guy that took on a lot of big challenges defensively. He was probably the player most liked by others. He mingled. He brought out the best in players and communicated the best,” Jackson said.

Its amazing to me how anyone hates on both the Lebron types and Scottie Pippen. Feels like you should have to choose one. Scottie Pippen aside from the obviously selfish 94 situation was pretty much the perfect glue guy and team player. Hes the type you could drop on any team playing any style and allow everyone to play to potential. That we have people who spend all day on here hating the ball dominant, no D, teammate minimizing game of some modern stars turn around and also hate someone who played the way Pippen did really shows how few of the criticisms we see here are genuine problems with basketball styles.

Guys like Pippen, the post prime Duncan who stopped asking for the ball and just led and provided a steady presence, Stockton, Kevin Garnett, Bill Russell and others....they should be pretty admired by everyone who complains about the modern drama queen stats first guys. Instead people will call them Robins and such as if good basketball can only be played by the guy shooting 25 times. Between that and the moronic "Bird fed" trend of hating on players for not needing the ball much to score and help the team?

Its like ISH utterly stopped giving a **** about good team basketball. Which wouldnt be odd except for many of the same people complaining when they see James Harden dribble 18 times and stepback into a 3 while 4 teammates watch.

Someone explain to me how anyone both complains about Klay Thompson and Davis playing tough D, shutting up, spacing the floor, coming off screens with determination, making open shots, and scoring 20-30 points with like 40 seconds of time with the ball....then turns around and hates on James Harden, Lebron, or Westbrook for occasionally cruising on D, having the ball all game, and turning teammates into shooters?

Just feels weird to me.

You remember anyone who hated the game of BOTH Pippen and Allen Iverson?

Or bosh Nash and Steve Francis?

Think anyone in the 60s hated on both Russell and Wilts approach? How could you?

Doesnt it just strike you as odd to hate on both?

It’s pretty amazing Jordan could put together the GOAT career while allowing his teammates to shine so much a thread like this could even be made

Makes you appreciate Michael Jordan's game/style even more. A GOAT level off the ball player that can let others stars play their game, and average virtually the same numbers when he's not playing. Unlike Lebron ball, where the whole team has to adjust to him, his stats, his dribbles, because he can't adjust to the talents of others, giving them no game when he's off the floor.

Such words by Jackson would not had been said if Pippen played in the Lebron ball system. If he played with Lebron in the weak East with the free trips to the Finals, Pippen would had gotten the blame for the 6+ Finals loses.

It's not a good thing to be outshined by your own teammates
He never outshined Jordan, hence MJ is widely known as GOAT. I dare you to repeat
