Walk on Water

She’s a pastor but outside of the church a normal person. And so we went to dinner with some others. She said that technology makes it harder for us to concentrate and be with people.
I told her that it bothers me when I don’t get likes. She said it’s because I’m selfish and am not letting Jesus into my heart. And she says the fact I only have 100 Instagram followers is very telling.
Because in order to get people to like you, you have to care for them and love them. She said I only care about myself and the 100 Instagram followers tells the whole story.
Told her I do help people and she said I’m full of it. Told me that nobody used to like her and she hated everyone. But once she let Jesus into her life, it transformed her. She took my hand and tried to give me love.
Her friends agreed that the more people I help the more likes I will get back.
Now is really worth trying to get 100 likes? How many more hundreds of friends am I gonna have to befriend in real life in order to get that many likes? I don’t have that kind of time! I mean how many more people do I need to have like 900 Facebook friends? That’s probably how many I would need to be competitive.
So they suggested doing meet up.com
But how much time and energy is that gonna take to build up to 900 friends? I just can’t believe that she told me my 100 followers is very telling.
I kinda hate social media now because it’s almost like if I meet someone in the real world but it’s never posted, then it feels like it doesn’t count. Social media is a lot of work. Because not only do you need real friends, but also enough of them that will not only be on Facebook and Instagram, but will like my posts.
I just don’t think I can dedicate my life to trying to chase that. One time I paid Instagram 9 bucks and I got back 300 likes. Didn’t really change my life though. Because I don’t know if the people I know even saw that I got 300 likes.
It gets really hopeless after a while. It’s almost like a real life friend isn’t enough. But they have to be a digital friend too.
But this is what social media wanted.
