Buddy Hield's four-year contract extension hasn't kicked in yet, but the veteran guard could look to leave the Sacramento Kings (http://bleacherreport.com/sacramento-kings) via trade soon.
Per The Athletic's Shams Charania, Sam Amick and Jason Jones (https://theathletic.com/1601626/2020/02/12/inside-kings-landing-frustrated-ownership-injury-woes-group-text-chats-and-luka-doncic-what-ifs/), Hield has grown frustrated with his role in Sacramento and could request a trade if things don't change:
"If Hield remains displeased with his role, a source with knowledge of his thinking said he might request a trade. He believes he is a starter in the NBA (http://bleacherreport.com/nba) and there's no guarantee he'll get that job back, given how the team has played lately. And unlike last season, when he never criticized [Dave] Joerger publicly and even refrained from doing so after their well-chronicled January 2019 run-in at Golden State, Hield has shown a willingness to criticize [Luke] Walton that has proved at times problematic."
Hield and head coach Luke Walton have had issues this season, most notably in December after a 105-104 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in which Hield played just five minutes between the fourth quarter and overtime.
"I don't know," Hield told reporters (https://www.sacbee.com/sports/nba/sacramento-kings/article238746248.html) after that game. "Seems like we're all over the place — coaches and everybody. Trust issues going on, I guess. Guys stop believing in players. It is what it is. They have who they have playing out there and I just have to be supportive."
Hield did apologize (https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/kings/buddy-hield-apologizes-kings-after-emotional-postgame-comments) to the team afterward for those comments. The 27-year-old has been used off the bench in each of Sacramento's past nine games, though he's logged over 30 minutes in three straight games.
The Kings gave Hield a four-year extension (https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27895854/sources-buddy-hield-kings-4-year-94m-deal) worth up to $106 million in October. That deal kicks in starting next season and runs through 2023-24.

20/5/3 player who takes 10 threes a game and makes 39% of them. But he apparently isnt a "Whatever the team needs" guy. Has that AI/Melo "Im not a bench player" mentality despite not being obvious HOF talents like they were. That something you might be interested in?

If your team needs a shooter then they could use him because he is a legit starter. Just not the kind of guy that would start for every team. Knicks could use him and should have the cap space to trade for him without matching money (I am just figuring that they shouldn't have made any big commitments after striking out last summer). If they can get him without trading Barrett or their lottery pick why not?

Would also be a good way for Philly to unload Horford.

Is a DeRozan for Hield swap a pipe dream?

Hield seems a little confused. The time to request a trade is before you sign an extension, not after. He is under contract until 2024.

Very true but who signs for a hundred mil thinking they're coming off the bench? If Sac doesn't give him a bigger role they'll be the real losers here because you can't pay a guy that kind of money that you don't feature.

I won't blame Hield. Sacramento has been a mess since the end of the Webber era.

I'd do this if I were Pop. Demar is leading us to the middle of nowhere. At least you can build up with Hield, White, Murray, etc. Trade Aldridge while he's at it.

As a Kings fan I've already been pondering if we should trade Buddy for Oladipo

I'm not knowledgeable about Sacramento but he could be a vet leader if they need that and a defensive cornerstone. Not worth the money but neither is Hield if they aren't going to use him.

Ehh, if he's still playing 30+ minutes and on the floor to close out games does it really matter if he starts or not? Manu Ginobili and Jason Terry are perfect examples of guys who didn't start but still played starer minutes and were on the floor in the most important moments.
It's probably the constant losing that is irritating him more than anything.

It's the losing on top of the role that kills it. Getting back to the money I feel sure that Terry wasn't proportionally paid like Hield. Ginobili might have been but Manu managed to become a superstar.
Hield only got moved to the bench since he was shooting like shit. He's been way better since so I imagine he might get reinserted into the starting lineup soon enough if he keeps it up.

If the cap holds at $118 for next year Heild will take up roughly 22% of the Kings cap.
Terry at his peak salary in Dallas made $11.1M which in 11/12 under a cap at $58m which is a hair under 19%. Also to be fair, the actual amount of payroll he took up was 14% b/c Dallas was operating well over the cap w/a $77m payroll. Not sure what Sacto will be like next year but I doubt they go over the cap so there is that to think about.
So not completely equal but moderately close.
I don't really think Terry would have had any objections to his role if he was making a million or two more though. I will grant that if they were awful like Sacto currently is he may have made a stink about it. If the Kings were a 50 win team every year and he was still complaining about coming of the bench while playing starter minutes it would be more worrisome. I doubt if he was on one of the LA teams and came off the bench to start he would be mad about it. Winning tends to cure all ills.

Buddy Hield will retire without coming to grips with the fact that his career won't be much more than a slightly upgraded OJ mayo.

He's playing a career high in mins and taking a career high shots. Even when he comes off the bench he still plays. Fact of the matter is he's nothing special. He's a very good, maybe even great shooter, but that's about it. He can't get to the rim so only takes 2fta's to those 17 shots. It's why he he's a high volume 20 points on 17 shots player. Aside from that he basically does nothing of note on the offensive end and is just a terrible defensive player. It's not like he's going to get much better either being 27. He should be happy that the Kings were stupid enough to even give him that contract.

Wouldn't bother me one bit, being that I made over 100 mil before 30.

This. He was total garbage as a starter out there this year. Totally embarrassing. Now as the 6th man he is playing really well and come to life. He's getting his money, he's getting his minutes, he's proven much better coming off the bench this year for this team. Moving him to the bench has been the ONLY good thing that Luke Walton has done this year.

Philly seems like an obvious option and the kings had interest in horford during the offseason. Would take away minutes from Holmes. I’ll throw out Memphis and a Dillon brooks swap

If the Kings draft a shooting guard I expect them to trade Buddy Hield before the season starts.
