Kobe Bryant (7) Dec 16, 2009 LAL @ MIL -1 2-pt FG

I'm not going to lie. Seeing KG so high on the list was a little shocking to me.

Probably the most shocking. Also thought Bird, Reggie and Dirk had more. Jordan and Kobe at the top is fitting while Joe looks out of place :oldlol:

Steph and Steve Nash have never had 1 also.

Does it tell ya how many total buzzer beater's were attempted by those players?

Remember this is buzzerbeating game winners, a very specific criteria.

If you make it simply game-winners it's entirely possible those players you mentioned have more than KG.

Though I'll admit I too was surprised by his position on the list.

I made a video on him like 10 years ago and kept finding more and more clutch shots but people keep insisting he didn’t make them. He made a bunch in 08 too and people still convince themselves he wasn’t used that way. He has spot up game winners, isolations, putbacks, and so on. He hit game winners every possible way. He made big threes and fade-aways and all. And this just counts buzzer beaters not just late game shots.

People legit don’t believe they happened and insist he wasn’t a clutch scorer no matter the evidence shown.

Yes I get that. Buzzer beaters are extremely rare and obviously these guys reps as clutch players were based on more then just that. Jordan first buzzer beater ever was the shot against the Cavs and he had been in the league for 4 years at that point. 3 of Kobe’s 8 buzzer beaters came within the span of a month. This alone IMO isn’t really telling us that much.

It really shows you how powerful "narratives" are at convincing people. If you hear a story enough you'll be very inclined to believe it irrespective of its veracity or lack thereof.

I'm also interested in the research that went into this. They went all the way back to the start of the NBA in 1946 to find these results. Did they use newspaper articles and saved radio recordings. Also, how much pre- merger video is actually out there that they may have used for this?
