Kyrie Irving will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks said Thursday

Irving missed 26 consecutive games earlier this season with the right shoulder impingement. He said that the pain started during the Nets' Nov. 4 game against the Pelicans.

He saw an Arizona-based specialist in December and received a cortisone shot on Dec. 24. Irving said at the time that he hoped the cortisone would eliminate an immediate need for surgery.

Irving was averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game this season.

Marks said he was disappointed that he and the Nets have gotten so little of a look at their full team this season.

"It's been a roller coaster ride of a season," he said.

Irving also missed one game for hamstring tightness, one game after Kobe Bryant's death, and the five games before the All-Star break with a sprained knee.

ESPN's Malika Andrews contributed to this report.

Surgery to the shoulder.

Out for the season.

What happens with the Nets?

Lol, I don't know why this gets the "Breaking News" banner on ESPN. It's not like this was unexpected, or happening to a team that was gonna be anything more than a first round exit anyway. It would've made no sense for him to continue playing, might as well get this over with so he can have ample time to recover to be ready when Durant comes back

Now Kyrie can focus all his energy to his new VP position

Typical Beta move.... Basketball is too hard for him alone... So he runs and hides... Always "injured" ...But, then he will come back next year riding Durant's jock like it's ONLY because they're both back and this is why they're sooooo successful as one of the top teams in the East unlike last year when they traded all the "problems" away, and next off season and built the contender you see before you in 2021. :facepalm

So basically the Nets paid Kyrie $35 million and Durant $41 million to not play a whole season. :oldlol:

He's not "hiding," he literally has to have surgery on the injury.

Nobody has surgery for the fun of it.

They continue to get better without Kyrie.

Steph had surgery.

And Kyrie is about to have surgery.

The same medical team that approved fake diagnosis all 2017, 2018 and 2019 to rest up 4 all-stars on rotation. Still doing it with Dray this season while starting 5 g-league guys

NBA is a business and the Warriors are intentionally enroute to a 1st pick while gifted Wiggins to Curry/Klay/Draymond. "Organically built" :oldlol:

NFL players play on compound metacarpal breaks with pins, Curry's was a microfracture.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will miss at least three months after undergoing hand surgery on Friday, a timetable that orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Osei called “ultraconservative.”

“I’m having a hard time imagining how a second metacarpal fracture takes three months to heal,” said Osei, a product of the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and a hand and upper extremity specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. “I can’t come up with any scenario. There’s some other piece to this puzzle that’s not clear … Maybe they are being ultra-conservative in getting him back, given the state of the team. Maybe it makes sense, given what’s going on with the team.”

Irving's shoulder impingement is in-and-out arthroscopic touch up to remove dead tissue. 1 month down time

Wild that the Nets will have both KD and Kyrie next season.

Joe Harris should have a lot of open threes.

Big question is, if it's Kyrie at PG, KD at SF, who gets the minutes at SG, Caris LeVert or Joe Harris? Probably LeVert - but just saying, that Harris three will be a real weapon.

Its very probably they get reinjured again next year, or at least one of them.

Harris will play the 2 and I think KD will play most of his minutes at the 4 next year.

I'm pretty sure either Dinwiddie or LeVert will get traded next season as we have too many ball handlers on our team with Kyrie and KD back

Could say that about any player in the league.
